Anyone else had update issues? First time for me over the years that one didn't update seamlessly.

My 12 Pro bricked. Had to "reset and upgrade" via Mac.
Now an iPhone 8 did the same for me.

Both were configured differently. The iPhone 8 was on 14.1 actually since it is my backup phone if the primary breaks. :)

Agree unless we capture logs and review. I was wondering if others had the same experience.

How did you recognize that the phone was "bricked"? That might provide a clue. What did you do to reset it?

Phones were stuck on boot logo.

Followed this article to reset and restore the phones.

Updating via Mac failed with an error message “can’t write to iPhone”.
had to be a complete OS restore.

Because there is no objective measure of "stuck," it usually means "the time taken exceeds my expectations". Often, people underestimate the time required for an upgrade and think devices are "stuck" when they just need more time. I'm not saying that's you. I'm just pointing it out in general.

This same thing is happening to me. Tried to update today but I just get the Apple logo with no progress bar for the update. Tried to flip to DFU mode and restore, but getting an error about "iOS cannot be restored on this iPhone". Apple Support advised me to try another computer or another Lightning cable but still not having any luck so far. Scheduled an appointment with the Genius Bar... anybody have any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?

You know what I think this happened to me. My ipad mini 5 was working fine. I used it this morning and left it at 44% about 12 hours later I attempted to turn it on. It appears to be dead. I thought it was strange but I thought maybe its switched its self off. I attempt to turn it on and the apple logo comes on for a second and then switches off. I Try a restart of soft reset doesn’t work. I try to charge it for a while thinking that maybe the battery is somehow dead. It doesn’t work. I do some research do all the recommended button presses and nothing happens. Decide to try and update the software via iTunes. Plug and see its in recovery mode. Update doesn’t work. Restore doesn’t work. Try another mac. No luck. Anyway long story short I was about to give up but eventually after a few reeboots of my Mac I managed to get it to restore. My question is although my phone was less than 50% I’m thinking that because I had automatic updates turned on it tried to download iOS 14.7. I was at my mum’s this morning and couldn’t be bothered to log into her WiFi. So I used my iPhone hotspot to connect my son’s fire tablet so he could use it. My iPad mini is set to automatically connect to my phone‘s WiFi. The signal is not great at my mum’s only, 3G and after a point I switched off the hotspot. I’m thinking that even though it was less than 50% charged it attempted to download the software anyway and tried to install it and that’s what caused the issue?

It should not trigger the install automatically unless plugged in and on wifi. However, if the battery percentage is 50 or above, you can invoke a manual install and I have seen on occasion when one invokes the download, it will do the install right afterwards as long as there is 50% or more on the battery life.
