When I wake up the phone the screen very often doesn't come on at the brightness intensity setting where I have it and if I max it out it's nowhere near the normal max.
So I turn off the screen and back on again and now it works as it should.
This started with the iOS 14. Not the betas but the actual public release.
Is there a fix? Is this even known?

Do you use automatic brightness? In my case it's turned off. Using IPP 10.5 and current iPADOS version. I haven't noticed any issue with brightness, it always remember the one I use.

I’ve noticed this issue once on my iPhone 11 Pro. I played with the brightness slider in Control Center, fixed it immediately as the slider moved.

This is happening on all phones. If you lock phone and unlock brightness returns to normal. It has to be a bug. For me it’s very random. Maybe 1 out of 10 times.

I've noticed I would be using the phone and it would go to it's lowest brightness setting. I would need to lock the phone and then unlock to get it back to normal, but it is weird.

I have auto brightness on and sometimes it just does what it wants (ie stays really bright in a dark room).

I’ve been having the same problem since ios 14 public release. I wake the screen and the brightness is really low, though it usually adjusts to normal after a few seconds. I do have auto brightness on but this never happened before ios 14.

Having the same issue and was concerned wether or not its software related because i used to work in a repair shop and this issue can sometimes be caused by the Backlight i.c which is a hardware issue.

I have recently installed ios 14.1 and it has only happened since then though and it happens as described here. When i unlock the phone its suddenly dimmer then usual. For me personally, even when my brightness slider is all the way down the display is still somewhat bright but when this happens the screen is so dim you can barely see it and have to crank the brightness up. A restart fixes the issue but it happens again eventually. Occassionaly it will fix itself after locking/unlocking a few times

I have recently purchased IPad Prom2020 12.9 inch. IOS IS 14.2. THE SCREEN BRIGHTNESS IS REALLY BAD. LOOKS LIKE AB10 YEAR OLD SCREEN AND NOT A NEW PURCHASE. TRIED EVERYTHING. NOTHING HELPS

Yes big issue with iPadOS 14.x.
Display & Brightness
Dark Mode
Auto OFF
Slider set to max.
The screen brightness is constantly changing all by itself, flicking darker then lighter over and over In any app day or night.
I look in settings Display & Brightness and I see the brightness slider moving up and down by itself.
yet again, Auto is OFF so it shouldn’t be doing this.
It must be a bug that was included in iOS 14 because it never did this in any OS before 14.
