That would be up to Google to support it.
I'm going to guess that Google will lock the feature out and only made it available for their premium users. That's what they did on Android.
Still works on safari on iPad though...

The A9 was such a powerful chip, nice to see that lifespan.
Also doesn’t it have 2 GB of Ram? Back then that was considered a lot for the 6s. I feel my 6s was the best purchase I’ve ever made. Still works excellent. I think it came with iOS 9 and here I am on iOS 13 still working great and fast then it will work with iOS 14, just amazing life cycle.

It does! That must also be why the iPad Air 2 is supported as well, even though it has the A8X it has 2GB of RAM.

Major disappointment if this doesn't work with YouTube.
Prepare to be majorly disappointed then. Google doesn't allow this on iPad so it's not going to do it on iPhone. They want you to subscribe to YT premium to continue the audio, so maybe they'll do something similar like put the feature behind a paywall.

Comrades in this thread are reporting it will/does work on the iPad? I guess we'll have to see. I'm sure someone will post in this thread with the beta installed in the next 8 hours :)

Will likely have to use safari for it to work

Just tested and it doesn’t work for YouTube as PIP. It only works with Apple TV app.

Apps will likely have to be recompiled against the new sdks. Same thing every year - apps often don’t get new features until they are re-compiled. Try YouTube in safari?

Can't believe this took sooooooo long. It's been with the iPad for year.
It's been around way longer than that! PIP was released for the iPad with iOS 9 in 2015. It has been loooooong overdue coming to the iPhone, especially now that there have been Max models with larger screens for multiple years now.

The biggest impact will be with Facetime. Now you'll be able to live in the 21st century and switch apps or check a message and not only will you still be able to see your caller, but it won't pause your video and they'll still be able to see you! What a concept!

Wow!!
I’m super surprised that Apple is allowing the 6s iPhone to use iOS 14. The phone will be 5 yrs old by the fall.

It's still a more than capable phone. At least, mine is. Everything I've thrown at it just works.

Just a shame it's got crap battery life even after a new battery last year!

I'll probably test iOS 14 and the new stuff on that first.

I feel the same way. I only have two issues with my 6s - 1.) Even though I got a new battery when they were cheap, it still basically lasts half a day, and 2.) It closes and reloads apps way too frequently. I think it might need more RAM? I'm not sure how that portion is dealt with on the backend...

I look forward to YouTube support in 2022.
Honestly I don't even know if it will ever happen at this point. They still don't have it on the iPad, even if you're a paying Premium member. It's ridiculous.

Yeah I had to buy a mophie battery case in the end, which doubled battery life.

Also I'm not sure about the RAM management you described, I guess I never really noticed this.

Closer but not complete. Still missing things like placing home screen icons anywhere, VP9 codec, background multitasking, freedom to install/run apps like emulators/torrent clients/Kodi/etc.
I’m almost positive this will move to AV1 which Apple/Google (and so YouTube) have both agreed to support for the future.

VP9 was a patent minefield, a patent troll has been said to have been sitting on an Eastern District of Texas lawsuit, waiting for Apple to jump on board. If so, Apple/Google will have outmaneuvered them.

YouTube uses some custom player rather than Apples, I wouldn’t be surprised if they stuck it behind a pay wall(for example, playing YouTube videos as audio in the background. You have to pay for their subscription for that.)
I don’t mind as I already pay for YouTube premium. I’ve never been able to get the pip video even on my iPad. I just want to get the full features of the subscription I’m paying for.

This is pretty sweet wow. Now with the "iphones are too small for PIP" argument put to rest can we get pencil support for the iphone?!~?!?
Next we need split screen apps and pencil support.

Did it start working again? It was blocked after an update a while ago.

Even if you have YouTube premium.
