When I make a folder and put a photo in it, that photo is still in my camera roll. I want it out of the camera roll once I put it in a folder. I only want the camera roll to be used for new pictures I haven't assigned to a folder yet.

The camera roll is a view, not a folder. It is not a "place" to remove something from.

I get that this is something, but honestly, it is pretty crappy too. So we can finally add/edit captions on iOS. Cool. Smart albums? Oh, whoops. Still can't make those. In fact, they don't even populate correctly in iOS: The shells are there, but no images. At least not ones that rely on image metadata. Delete Faces that you don't care about? Oh, yeah; still haven't fixed that bug from 4 years ago. Assign faces on iOS? Yeah, still no.

And macOS Photos isn't much better. Faces is still pretty much useless; you can't delete faces, still. You can't even get to a view that just shows all the detected faces and easily assign them (which iPhotos had, I should add). You can kind do it if you enable the show names and go one by one through pics, but that will include images that no faces were detected in. Still can't consolidate locations easily.

Apple has done a piss-poor job at giving any features that are actually useful in macOS or iOS Photos. And don't even get me started on them killing off Aperture.

A few years back, I wrote a smart album app for iOS that I recently started working on again and would love to improve upon, especially since it appears that Apple has not included Smart Album functionality in iOS 14. I would love feedback and would appreciate any feature requests. Thanks! It’s a free download: Photowerks: Smart Albums

I wish that it was easier to share the metadata in shared albums. My mom recently died so I've been slowly combing through the family album and scanning things in. I've been working with my dad to try to figure out the year/location of each pic. Things are fine on my end, but when I add to the shared folder for the family it is all out of order again.

I was playin around with the photos settings and found something that might help!

I was playing around with the photos settings and found something that might help! I’m not sure if after turning on this option if it’ll automatically keep it on for all photos but it’s worth a try! And it seems to specify only airdrop!

This makes me SO happy... Yeah, I’ve been waiting for this feature for a long, long time. I’m sure you’ve read some of my messages where, on my wishlists for iOS 14, tags for Photos app was my number one.

It was odd that I could add a keyword to pictures in the MacOS Photos app, but not in iOS and iPad OS. I wrote Craig Federighi and even tho he hasn’t answered this time, I’m sure he has been reading this suggestion quite a few times.

I’m just happy, finally I will be able to classify my ginormous picture library with keywords and descriptions. The only caveat is I don’t use iCloud Photos, so I’ll do that on one device, and then export the library to the other devices.

EDIT: It’s funny, @PowerBook-G5 disagrees with my comment, and I wonder which part of it is the one they disagree. The fact this feature makes me happy? The fact that I wrote Craig asking specifically for a solution like this? Or the fact that I have a huge photo library locally stored and I need this tags?
Can't answer why he keeps disliking these posts - yours and the one you responded to - but a question as to why you don't us iCloud Photo Library since it seems like you have LOTS of Apple devices listed in your description. My wife and I share two iPhone 11, two iMacs and I have two Apple Watches, an iPad mini and two Apple TVs and love the idea that the photo libraries are shared between all the devices. Just curious. - especially if you are using it to save and categorize your photos.

First, privacy. I know all that CelebGate was the consequence of celebrities getting their iCloud passwords hacked with social engineering (theoretically), but I still don't feel confortable with certain pictures being in some external servers. And before you ask, no, I don't use Facebook nor Instagram. Also, for medical reasons, some of the pictures I take are NSFW (injuries or other disgusting pictures), and they are secure on my devices.

Second, space. I don't pay for iCloud Drive, and it would be impossible to store my photos on my 3GB of free iCloud space.

Third, I never understood the way it works, and I'm afraid of deleting all my pictures on one device and losing them all, because I formatt some of my devices from time to time. Although I suppose deleted pictures go to a temporary folder before being deleted for ever.

I feel more confortable storing my library locally, however, I still have to learn how to export the library from one device to other devices... So far I just download them on my hard drives, but shortly I want to learn how to create a library file to be able to share between all my devices with all the info on it.

Ok - understand the privacy issue if you have never stored photos or documents in any close service. I was using another service (I like having at least one backup not in my home) and paid the money I was using towards that to increase the size of my iCloud storage.
And yes, you must understand that iCloud Photo Library is not a true backup service as photos that are edited and/or deleted are done everywhere. But they do stay in the Deleted Photos Album on your devices for 30 days before being permanently deleted from the iCloud Servers - or if you permanently delete them yourself.
I have my Photos Library on an external hard drive and make two local backups of that that I keep at home - in addition to the iCloud storage.

As far as keeping your local photos synced to all your devices, iTunes (and I assume now Finder though I’m not sure since I’m still on Mojave) has a section for syncing photos when managing your iOS device. You can choose which folders of photos (or albums in the Photos Mac app) sync to which device.
The photos will then sync—one way sync, to your device only—whenever you sync your device with iTunes. You can opt to sync it wirelessly when your device is charging and connected to the same WiFi network, though this has always been spotty for me. I opt to just plug my phone into my Mac when I get home every day (although these days I never leave) and let it automatically sync and charge while I use my iPad mini for everything at home.

I can now add captions, which is great.
But individually? I can’t go through my pics and select all the McLarens and tag them in one go and then do the same for Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Koenigseggs etc.?
Multiple captioning would be useful, individual captioning, while a step in the right direction, still falls short.

I'd like to be able to edit the location info too, because often the data is incorrect.
I’m not sure, but I think you can on the Mac Photos App. Anyway, I want to be able to do all of this on my iDevices as well. I don’t like the feeling when you can do X, Y, Z on your mac, and only X on your iPhone and iPad.

I’ve put a text in the description of hundreds of photos and they don’t show below the photos in iOS 14. How can I copy text from the Description to the Caption in an easy way? Is there a character limit in the Caption because there might be over 255 characters in some of my descriptions.
Thanks.
