Wonder what happens when kids start sending harassing emails to other kids or teachers with this feature?
no abuser of this feature should assume that apple doesn’t keep a list.

Besides they could already use gorilla mail or some such if they wanted to do this.

Won't accept it? They look pretty much like normal addresses, like some.words_2x@icloud.com. It's not the same as sign in with Apple, which generates more artificial looking addresses. I've used hide my email many times already without any problems.

Yeah, club.pokemon.com rejected the HME address unfortunately. And maybe there was something specific about it? It was basically word-07.anotherword@icloud.com. Maybe it didn't like the dash? Unfortunately, I don't see that HME had a way as I signed up to discard what had been generated and create another instead.

As you are creating it, tap the reload arrow by the proposed HME address. You get three options each shown in sequence.

This came in handy the other day when I was registering for a new website. Normally I use my own domain and just use companyname@mydomain.org to easily see when companies are selling or not protecting my info. But this website absolutely would not accept anything @mydomain.org as a valid email address. I've never encountered that before! I can't imagine the kind of sloppy programming that caused that (I suspect it didn't recognize any .org domain as valid).

Finally I hit the Hide My Email button in Safari, it created a random @icloud.com address, and it worked like a charm.

But its in the hide my email settings.
Apple has made a balkanized botch of the HME user interface.

Instead of combining the interfaces for HME, SIWA, and iCloud Keychain (because they have massively overlapping purpose and functionality) apple has split them into separate interfaces and scattered them thru out the Settings app.

Be that as it may, apple have at least combined the registries for the different sources (safari, SIWA, mail, manual, etc.) from which one can create alias addresses.

WRT SIWA one can find SIWA info both under settings iCloud security and the HME index.

Yep, definitely this. I had a website that rejected the dash. Just generated another one without a dash and it accepted it.

How about a “Hide my phone number”, i.e. a burner number?
If you are in the U.S. and use T-Mobile they give you a "burner number" for free. It's called Digits. The first one is free. You can have additional numbers for $10 a month.

Outlook.com lets you create an alias email address. I do this whenever signing up for something. Then when I'm done with the service or my info gets leaked on their server, I delete the email alias. It's nice because if they try to cross reference your email alias they won't find any accounts or profiles on other services.
