iOS 15.3 Beta 2 ― Bug Fixes, Changes, and Improvements

Our little group of townhomes are getting are roofs redone (courtesy of HOA / it is a bit noisy at times) and after a couple of calls (including one on Teams) where I was asked about background noise. So I switched to my OP 9 Pro and the background noise for the folks on our chats went away.

I tested it using my son as a TA (test animal) on his Note. He could hear the difference. Said it wasn't bad however the 13PM had some background noise while the OP 9 Pro had pretty much nothing.

Makes me wonder just what Apple is doing.

BGR seems to have confirmed that noise cancellation is not part of IP13 and will not be…but with no explanation from Apple as to why.

Yeah apple support told me via twitter that I basically waited months for a fix through a software update for nothing and that apparently the 13’s don’t support that feature. Other sites published the story I sent in to them. Really weird why apple won’t make an official response to it though. There is a tiny bit of hope since apple support responses should be taken with a grain of salt, but who knows really 🙁

That, and the removal of many of the accessibility features that were removed, are very puzzling.

I don't always want to sound like Apple always has some grand scheme for everything, but it does seem like there may be something they were trying to do and they didn't get it done, but removed these features anyway. Unfortunately, unlike Universal Control, they didn't tell us what it was and when we might expect it.

Or I could be wrong and they just removed these features for the heck of it.

Noise cancellation is a weird one though...isn't it just software (assuming the phone has the same or better hardware...which I think we know it does.)??

I'ts not going to just one day be at zero with a new beta, as I've said before, your phones do need some TLC to get good results. There is a beta camp of people, not saying its you, that just think your phone should run ok from beta to beta and each new beta sorts of the last one with no maintenance needed, because then an app update will be around the corner sorting that out, kind of attitude. Wrong. We need to delete and reinstall apps from time to time. Also we need to reinstall the iOS again from time to time, thats just the behaviour of devices on beta software - Hard restarts and network resets are a must also!

All said and done, I went from 12gigs down to 5.5gigs just having a tinker.

Yes, I know that system data is a kind of cache, but I regularly do what you mention, and it doesn't reduce anything. the thing is that reinstalling an app, instagram is usually the one that occupies the most, lightens the space that the app occupies, but not system data, where it even increases sometimes. I have even restored from 0, and its behavior is identical, it goes through streaks. Now I have spent about 3 weeks with values in this section of 3 or 4Gb, and in the last few days I have increased aggressively without even using it, and the apps have been reinstalled for a week or so. Now it will be like this for another 3 or 4 weeks and overnight it will go down again, without having done anything at all. is what annoys me, the randomness of this behavior. in ios 14 in my XS it was a nail, around 4gb always, here it goes up and down like a roller coaster for no visible reason, because as I told you, even restoring from 0 it has exaggeratedly high values on the day it works. I have also been investigating how to control it for years, but not even Apple knows, because every time I have asked about how to download what this section occupies, its only solution is to restore, which now is not having an effect on me.

Regarding the noise cancellation thing in iphone 13, I read that apple had replaced it with the new cancellation methods that it added in ios 15. they are supposed to be activated, or changed, by lowering the control center while you are using an app that use the microphone or camera and there you can choose the one you want. I read it in an article, but I can't confirm it because I have an iphone 11 pro and I have noise cancellation, and these effects only appear on apps like instagram.

The two are different. The effects you’re talking about is applied to your voice or any audio going through to the other end. The noise cancellation which is seemingly absent from the 13 series is what you’ll find under audio/visual accessibility features, which blocks out noise when you hold the receiver to your ear while on a phone call, so that you can hear the audio from the other end. It’s quite useful, especially in crowded areas, and it came out with the iPhone 7, if memory serves. In fact, I can still see it on my 7+ on iOS 15.

Tried it with a phone call and did not see any options for this on the the control center. Nor instagram.

Dongle with mSD card.

This is one of the methods I use to backup photos manually from these devices.

Ran into a new one with this beta.
Some of the HEIC files when copied (via Files) are showing up as 4k in size while others are perfectly normal.
Only HEIC files. All other formats are good. Output from Lightroom is good (modded photos).

Going to do some playing around to see if I can narrow the cause and will try suggestions.

I know, but I read this and I wanted to share it, because from apple support they have only confirmed that this function is not in the iphone 13 series, and apparently they do not plan to return in the future. what they haven't said is the reason why they removed it, but something basic like this doesn't seem like a very good marketing strategy to me, and that apple is the king of marketing. If they fail at this now, a dark future awaits the company.
 
The camera app is really buggy on my iPhone 12 Pro Max after a ISPW install.

It randomly freezes in video mode or the photo is just black or the camera doesn’t open or the shutter button doesn’t react. Not always though. Right now I could only take photos from the Lock Screen for example

I do think they need to fail a little to bring back quality into their products. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that it’s trash, but being a customer for over 15 years, I can tell you that it was never this bad.

What are some of the other Accessibility features missing? In iOS 15, "Noise Cancellation with One AirPod" completely stopped working. As I am deaf in one ear, it's a feature I heavily rely on. It took something like 30 bud reports/feature feedback messages (and a few calls and conversations with Apply employees) before they decided to fix it. I probably had nothing to do with it being fixed, but I still like to think they just got tired of me bugging them.

Hey, can you try something in 15.3 b2? I’ve experienced an issue, a bug, in previous releases of iOS 15, that wasn’t present in iOS 14.

Select a few days/months old photo from your library. Then transfer it to your Mac via AirDrop, then select that picture and enter on the “get info” menu from Finder and tell me if the date there is today (the transfer date) or the original date when the picture was shot.

In iOS 14 it kept the original date when transferring photos via AirDrop to the mac. In iOS 15 it doesn’t anymore.

Same for Photo Description, but I’m more concerned about the date of the photo.

By the way, I already submitted feedback, but if you encounter the same bug, just report it as well.

I was having an issue where a random song would appear in Now Playing in Control Center. When that happens and I connected my phone to Car Play that song would start playing. The issue seems to be mostly fixed after I deleted the Music app and reinstalled a fresh copy from the App Store.

Things like asking Siri how many voicemails you have, etc...
