Hi all, since updating to iOS 15 and iPadOS15, on iPhone and iPad the Apple Photos app is stuck on 'Finding People'. (People album).

Action taken so far:

Reboot devices, remove and install all photo's again (they are scanned,) Still no people even not after hours on power cord.

Any Clues ?

I've been having issues with this too. Nothing has really helped, though over time it's managed to scan 40K photos in fits and starts. It's not clear why it can make progress in a few hours on the charger, and then sit and do nothing when charging over night. I've tried restarting my phone, force quitting photos, locking before plugging into power and vice versa. I've tried ejecting it from finder.

I did just think to hook it up to my computer and see what I can see with Console and it appears that some face recognition processes ran for a few minutes, but the number of photos scanned did not increase..

But Console or Activity Monitor only have access to macOS ?!

BTW After approx. 6 days on power cord and locked finally on one iPhone one people appears....

Incorrect. Console on MacOS devices can connect to iOS devices and stream log entries from there.

Mine has processed most of my 40K photos, but has had 2043 remaining for more than a day. Logs mention 2043 failed items, and it looks like it's retrying them from time to time with no change. Most of the time locked and on power seems to be spent on something called com.apple.corespotlight.knowledge, whatever that is, it's gobbling up a lot of computation.

Do we have any idea what items are failing, or how to identify them? I have been stuck with the same amount of images remaining for over a month now, and I am assuming it must be that something is corrupted. But I am unsure how to find it.

has anyone had any luck fixing this?

my Macbook (latest software) has been stuck with 15K to go out of 50K

my iPhone (15.4.1) stuck with 10K photos left out of 50K

photos upload + sync fine, only issue is recognizing on people for months

I have found that if you manually add a couple of faces it helps.
We tend to start it off by adding a face and a name to the face and then leaving it to run but a lot of faces are from the side or half covered or from someone when they were younger etc.
If it's only got one or a couple of examples to go on it won't have enough info to be able to complete the task- especially if we are expecting it to recognise someone as a baby.
Every time i manually add one It will find a few more so if you spend a few minutes adding some that are less straight forward I think you'll find it'll help a lot.
