Um what am I missing... FMIP already shows the last known location. Someone steals phone.. walks around with it and it picks up wi-fi networks.. sends last known location.. they shut it off.. I can still see that last known location.. what's new????

You can if you designate it as your Express Transit Card in Wallet.

Interesting. It seems I may have been worried for no reason as I've already had it designated. Although it still says "if there is enough juice remaining". I don't believe it will allow me on a completely drained battery.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned that Find My doesn't support finding the AirPods Pro case. There have been many times where I leave the case somewhere and can't remember where I put it.

"the Find My network" aka SKYNET

We know where you are. We know where all your **** is, too.

Apple is keeping an eye on you....

FWIW this stuff works because they make all their devices trackable and traceable even when off, no battery, etc, likely using ultra low power bluetooth handshakes, where they always talk to nearby apple devices that also have bluetooth on etc. Much more accurate for drone strikes, too... whoops did I say drone strikes??

"Reliable kills with Apple Skynet."

The case doesn't have Bluetooth or any kind of wireless connectivity, that's why. It's literally just a battery and puts the AirPods into pairing mode; that's it.

Welcome feature that we can track our iPhones even if they are switched off :)

The iPhone shuts down before the battery is totally empty, so there is always a little power remaining for NFC. Well, for few uses of NFC anyway.

Amazing, they’re making it such a hassle for anyone to try and steal Apple devices that hopefully nobody will bother in the future.

The only thing I like that Android has that iOS doesn't is the ability to be able to pay for transit/NFC even if the phone is off i.e. battery dies. Maybe this will change that? It's more NFC/Secure Enclave related though. I've literally had to turn off my phone and/or run to make sure I could pay using NFC at the next station. I always leave with a full charge, but if you're filming video for hours it drops to zero pretty quickly. Not sure why they can't do this even with the SEP.
how do you know which card you're paying with?

... it likely will show the last known location that your device was known to be at.
Its against forum rules to call out bad English, as we should accommodate non-native speakers and international members. But Juli is the Senior Editor at MR. Good lord, lol! How about, “...it likely will show your device’s last known location.” as an editorial standard? Maybe it was late and the deadline was looming...

Actually, the case has to do that secure handshake with the phone - the only wait it can do so is over bluetooth.

But, very little likelihood there's a cpu in the case capable of interacting with Find My - don't believe Apple planned that far ahead.

These guys really have the best engineers in the world. Hopefully they'll find a way to make a calculator app on the iPad.

For whatever reason, Apple has decided to not include a calculator on the iPad.

I bought PCalc, which works on my iPhone, Pads, and Macs, many years ago and have never looked back. Happiness found.

Yet I can’t share the location of an AirTag with my family…
I’ve encountered a real use case for this. My wife has an older iPhone, and the tag on her car keys only shows the map on her phone (no AR when close to the keys). Tags linked to my newer phone let you actually do the whole warmer/colder AR “find” procedure. If she could share the tag with family, then I could use my phone for more accurate finding if the keys are lost somewhere at home.

If there is enough power to show the charge icon when trying to turn it on, there should be enough for an express transaction. I don’t think the battery is truly fully drained when it automatically shuts down.

I don’t just want a calculator app, I want it to be a pop up overlay like the Apple TV remote is on iPad. That would allow you to pull it up over whatever else on your screen you might want to reference.

You do realize Numbers is capable of performing calculations in this instance, right? Let alone the stock calculator being a single line 'display' lacking operation history and non-basic functions, far worse than using formulas on a spreadsheet.

Lol, yes; I’m aware. I frequently create complex spreadsheets for various purposes.

It actually crossed my mind that numbers was a stupid app to have underneath my example, but I needed something quickly without any personal information.

Anybody knows if Apple already pushed the firmware update that enables this Bluetooth LE feature on iOS 14 connected AirPods ?

E.g. if somebody has lost their AirPods right now, and upgrades to the developer beta, will they be able to track the AirPods from Find My?

When they announced this feature I was sure I heard them mention this before for iOS 14. I looked it up and found this video. So now I really wonder what the difference is? The only thing that’s missing btw, is that you can also find the iPhone that’s enrolled in DEP so you can find it with your MDM
