Today, I had to reset the Home Screen layout to it’s default settings on both of my iPhones which are the iPhone SE (first generation) and on my iPhone 12 Mini.

After performing the reset on the iPhone 12 Mini, the Weather and the Calendar widgets appeared on the top of the Home Screen.

On the iPhone SE, no widgets appeared on the Home Screen after performing the Reset Home Screen layout. My SE is also running the latest iOS 15

Is this because that the SE model has a smaller screen than the 12 Mini?

Yes I know, but my question was for curiosity reasons.

After performing the Home Screen Layout reset on my iPhone SE (1st generation), the widgets don’t appear in the Home Screen as opposed to the iPhone 12 Mini.

Is it maybe because that the screen is much smaller size than the iPhone 12 Mini?

Can you not add the ones you want back? If you press and hold on a blank spot of your Home Screen you should see the available widgets you can add to the screen. I have one of the large phones so I don’t know whether the smaller ones have that option.

Your missing my point here…

Yes, on the SE, yes I can move them, and add them onto my Home Screen manually. I know this. That’s not my question.

My point being, is that why don’t the Weather and Calendar widgets appear AUTOMATICALLY after resetting my Home Screen layout on the SE phone?

On the 12 mini, they appear automatically on the Home Screen after performing a reset on the Home Screen layout to its defaults.

Nobody, except Apple knows why.
But if it makes you feel better, I tested it on my old 1st Gen SE and YES, there are no widgets set by default.
Did a factory reset (erase all content and settings) with my SE running iOS 15.0.2.

My guess is that the SE has a smaller screen real estate than the 12 mini.

Of course, widgets can be added manually to the Home Screen on the SE but some of the native default apps might move over from the primary main Home Screen to the secondary Home Screen by doing so.

Probably because the OG SE is an afterthought in Cupertino. They just don’t care about optimising for that screen.
