I hate 2FA and being dependant of several apple devices. Years ago ive lost my iphone on holiday, it was enough to login to my apple id on any pc, to recover all my contacts and other needed data just to continue the holiday in peace. If it will happen today, you re in a middle of a nightmare as there are no ways to login to it even if you remember a supersafe 64characters password. I have more important accounts in my life (banks) and neither of them is so complicated to access like apple id. I’m a vip, ceo, politician? Ok i need 10FA and staff members to confirm the login. Im just creating a dummy account for test an iphone? A mail + “1234” password is enough. But ok, people are idiots so if we dont force them to use strong security, they will use the weaker one. Thats fine, setup the strong security as default, but also give an advanced/hidden setting, with tons of warnings, to lower it, as everyone should know what is better for them.

When trying to add my mom , it says shes not using an Apple Device so i cant add her.

Shes using an iPhone 7, with ios 15

On iOS 15.0.2 and it doesn't work. When I click Add Recovery Contact, a second screen comes up. When I click the Blue "Add Recovery Contact" button, Face ID authenticates then the phone does nothing. Two factor auth is on and password is enabled.
I'm having the same problem. Did you ever sort this out?

Anyone I try to invite as a Recovery Contact (Family Group member or otherwise) receives an iMessage saying "You're added as my Account Recovery contact" ("You are..." not 'Will you accept?') with a link like https://setup.icloud.com/private/trustedcontact?flow=custodian&id=######## that just redirects to apple.com. In iCloud I see 'Request sent' and that they haven't accepted my request yet.
Old thread now but for the sake of anyone else finding this with search as I just did, I have just done this for my wife and I both ways, and yes, it appears that there is no way to accept the invitation. In one place it says "you have been added" and in the other it says "Request sent". However in the "you'e added" screen:

.... clicking on the blue part created an "accept" window and now the requesting device no longer shows "Request sent".
