Here’s the gist: Upgraded my 2020 IPP 12.9 to iOS 15 3 weeks ago. Ever since the upgrade my battery life took a major hit, I’m talking about next level hit. For instance, I’d charge it up to 100% at night say around 9 PM, but my morning around 8:30 AM it would be less than 10%, usually hovering around 7 - 9%. I was shocked and dismayed. Searched online and couldn’t find battery problems that severe after an iOS 15 update. Over the next several nights I ran tests to see if indexing was causing it after the upgrade. Same issue days later. Turned of Location services, disabled Background App Refresh and a host of other stuff. I ensured no apps were running after fully charging the IPP and unplugging it to see what the drain was like the following morning. Same results!! Contacted Apple support and was instructed to backup my device and do a clean install and set up as new then test it. They logged in to check my battery capacity and it was at 99%. Completed the reset and re-install as new. Same result. Went into Apple Store near me and the tech “Earl” guaranteed me that a clean install from his Mac laptop would solve the issue. He checked my battery during his diagnostics and said it was at 100%. I let him know that in the mornings the iPad feels slightly warm to the touch, which it shouldn’t be if it is locked and not in use. Screen Time shows 100% Home Screen/Lock Screen. He gave me the impression that he didn’t believe that I took the steps that Apple support had given me. Was kind of funny. I worked in tech for over 20 years and moved over to engineering after I got my degree, but I get it. Many people come in and aren’t honest. So I let it roll off. Of course he did the exact same things I did. Earl said “the firmware might have been corrupted” and “..guarantees that this should fix my issue.” Well guess what. It DIDN’T!! Called Apple support the following morning and had them log into my IPad so they could see the battery drain themselves. Apple support noted that the battery drained 1% every 2 minutes. I was on the phone for 1 and 1/2 hours. So after escalation, they instructed me to go back to the store and pick up my NEW (not refurbished) IPP. It was a harrowing experience. I have 10 iPads in my household. All iPad Pros from 2018 - 2021. I have never experienced an OS upgrade destroying a battery or hardware on any of my devices. Anyone else???

I understand the frustration, you want the device to work the way it should. Your battery would have had issues regardless of what iOS version you were running. Things go wrong, hardwire can fail even on something as new as your iPad. That is why you have an Apple warranty to help you with those sort of things. Are you happy with your replacement iPad? Is it performing better for you?

The title of this thread is a bit over dramatic.

Not over dramatic if you’re the one who goes through it. Hard for people to empathize with just a story. I get it though. I stand by my lived experience which wasn’t the best when at the Apple retail store. I didn’t include how they attempted to turn me away upon arrival when I called ahead, spoke to a manager, to guarantee that I would be seen. I had to put my foot down which was uncomfortable for me. But it was a 45 min drive which I explained to the manager and allowed him a way out if I couldn’t be seen that day. So I reject your “dramatic” framing for what I went through. Also prior to arriving I spent 1 hour and 28 minutes on the phone with Apple support, again. Thank you very much. Frustrating.
