Hello all,

I just wanted to know how is iOS 15 working out for members who are still on iPhone 7 plus.

Have you guys upgraded from 14?

I have a iPhone 7 plus and I was going to upgrade to iOS 14.8. But today that version is no longer available. I will be making quite a jump from 10 to 15. (I have made a separate thread about 14.7.1 so I apologise to the Mods in advance if they think this is a repetitive topic.)

I feel my phone still has four to five years of life left (possibly longer). It has a brand new battery. Everything is running fine.

Thanks

You can still update to 14.8, it's still signed. I haven't updated yet as of nothing really sticks out feature wise as even the major ones we get have been delayed but maybe once we get .1 or .2 I'll take the plunge.

I will try to do a manual restore to iOS 14.8.

I am certain I can restore my iOS10 backup from my PC to the updated phone.

Well here goes nothing.

I have an iPhone 7+ and I currently have iOS 14.8

Ive had it since it came out but the past 3 days or so my phone as been acting a little off and gets held up on tasks where it never used to get help up before. I'm not sure what to think about upgrading to iOS 15.

I'm a little nervous to do it because I don't know if I'm going to upgrade this year or next year- so I don't want to make a good situation worse- if thats the path iOS 15 will take me down on a iPhone 7+

iOS 15 drains the battery much faster for me. I don’t game or do anything intensive, just usual email, calls, social media. But other than the battery draining faster, I have not noticed any difference in scrolling or other UI functions. And I updated my wife’s iPhone 6s with an iPhone 13 Pro on launch day so I think I would notice if stuff are significantly slower, but it’s not. Her battery life is insane though, so that might be why I feel the iPhone 7+ drains faster. iOS 15 has a lot more background activities or at least it’s showing as such in battery settings. My battery health is good, coconut battery reports full charge capacity of 3436 mAH which is more than the 3183 mAH it is reporting for the wife’s 13 Pro. I replaced it myself last year with some random battery off of Amazon….

I have a lot better battery life on 15 than any other iPhone before. It could be that I have the 13, but, I can get a full day on heavy usage with 15. I haven’t had any issues. My daughter is on 15 on her 6S and the battery isn’t too bad for her. All she does it play Roblox.

Alright, took the risk and updated to 15.0.2
Does not feel slower, actually if anything a bit snappier? Curious how the battery will behave now (in fairness I should add: battery has according to CoconutBattery 82.6% and 1035 cycles...)

I would really recommend replacing your battery, I bet that would make a world of difference, it did for mine.

Yes I was thinking about that, but I just had the most useless chat with Apple service. I contacted them just to check if in the Apple store near me they do the repair immediately, i.e. I don't have to be a week without my phone.
I never got an answer to that question but the friendly lady insisted that there was no need to change at health level 83% (and I don't think she even understood the cycle count I mentioned to her...)....

If you're the slightest bit tech savy, I would recommend buying one an doing it myself. I had mine replaced once a few years ago when they had the $29 promotion, but I replaced mine again earlier this year with a battery off of amazon for around the same price, and honestly it wasn't too difficult they supplied all of the tools. Took me at most an hour.

Also if you don't mind I would love to know if 15.0.2 is still treating you right, considering finally upgrading today.

I changed a battery on an iPhone 6 some time ago and it was indeed not that difficult. But for the price difference I don't take the risk myself (Apple charges 55 Euros, a third party battery alone would cost me about 20 Euros). Last time I had them change my battery of the 7+ about 2 years ago I actually got a new phone back instead :D So with some luck the same thing happens again ;-)

wow! yes new phone lolol

Doubtful. I have 15.0.2 running on my iPhone7 and my wife's 1st generation iPhone SE. Both working well, no issues.

wow thanks for saying so! I guess I will take the chance and upgrade tomorrow or Wednesday . . . sounds like things will be alright, since off the bat there wasn't anything wretched happening from upgrading. Thanks agin !!!

I gotta try to hold out for an iPhone 14 lol

do not even think to update the ios 15 is really buggy sluggy ****ky on iphone 7 plus

I went ahead and upgraded last night and so far so good. Gotta see what the battery is over a the next few days

this is part of the problem. Batteries off amazon tend to be scams and the health can be easily spoofed (as with charge cycles)I once bought a battery that was always 100% health and stayed at 1 cycle no matter how many times it was charged. Performance was of course sub par. Never again. I just get it done at apple and enjoy another 3-4 years of good battery performance

Exactly, too many shoddy batteries out there. Having said that the cheap one from Amazon I put in my 6 still works fine 2 years later. But it is a short in the dark and with the work involved on a 7+ I cannot be bothered doing it over and over until I have a good battery.

In any case the 7+ in still behaving well under IOS 15, no real change to IOS 14.

Nevertheless I am sitting on the fence:
1. Invest 55 Euros and have a new battery installed in the 7+ at the Apple Store
2. Get a SE 2020 which would cost me around 350 Euros - downside the smaller screen, upside inductive charging and touchID and a much faster processor
3. Splash out a 1000 Euros and get a 13Pro which I am sure is a great phone but I hate that it doesn't have touchID (and I hate the cash outlay)

Opinions are more than welcome :)

My opinion as well. Keeping my 7+ for now. Battery Health at 77% on original 5 year old battery. Still on 14.8
Just be careful that your battery doesn't start to swell. I have to say overall I am impressed by the quality of the battery. Sadly I went through over 1000 cycles in a bit over two years but it is still over 83% while Apple warrants that the battery will hold at least 500 cycles :)
