I have no idea why this is a feature of the OS rather than an application you can run on it. I have no interest in the slightest in sports results and don't know why my phone has to carry the code to display it. There are many things tat I would like to see delivered in this manner (somebody suggested Falcon 9 countdowns) however I believe they should firmly live in the user/application world, not the OS itself. It's up there with the stocks app as useless baggage that could be just as easily delivered as a stand alone app.

Its an API/Framework that needs to be part of the OS, so that it can be easily implemented into any App with a few lines of code and always work the same way.

Live sport scores mentioned here seems to be implemented in to the TV app (according to this article), i guess if it bothers you (even though it doesn't activate itself automatically), you can delete that app, just like you can delete the stocks app.

Well the fact is that much of the world loves sport. It seems a part of human nature to enjoy (although obviously not all humans) and something that unites people and that they can come together to enjoy.

If you are worried about your phone having to carry unnecessary code (lol), how about "Stocks" for people with no interest in the markets, or the cycle tracker for those who do not have the relevant biology that can be tracked. What about weather for people who have no interest in the slightest in atmospheric conditions?

If you dont care about sports, just dont use the feature. If you really want the world to know, wear one of those 90s era tshirts about "My Favorite Sports Team Is Far Superior To Your Favorite Sports Team" as I think it will be more widely seen than posting on here.

With iOS 16, notifications are now always at the bottom of the screen. That sucks for me, because I usually keep my iPhone in my shirt pocket. In the past I used to just unobtrusively slide it up a little to see a notification. But now I have to pull the entire phone out. I wish there was a setting to go back to having notifications at the top of the screen.

I'm not really into sports much, but I'd have thought if you're not watching live, you usually don't want to know the scores so you can watch it later and have the surprise rather than the match ruined. Else you're busy doing stuff or don't care enough so don't need to know live (or would be better off listening to it on the radio or some live stream commentary). At least that's what I seem to gather from a few of my sports-loving friends. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Or maybe I'm biased as someone who sometimes likes to watch ocassional sport, but generally find it pointless to know what any scores are unless I'm watching and the world's actually full of people who care about sports scores but not the excitement of the sport or seeing the skill of the players.

Put it in your pocket top first and buy some upside-down prism glasses? 🤔

These days the way the Mets are NOT hitting I'll be getting very few alerts

There is. Check out the settings app.

It depends. Sometimes you may want to know a score of another game. In the USA people often follow multiple sports and when seasons do overlap they could perhaps have 2 games at a time.
In the U.K. football (soccer) games on a Saturday between 3pm-5pm are TV blackouts, knowing the score and watching the highlights later is part of the ritual for most.

Can this be used to show real-time stock quotes? The stock app is unreliable and doesn’t update in real-time, though I do love how it now has a widget on the lock screen. Maybe TradingView or another company can utilize this API?

Sports spoilers are a blight on mass media. Who on Earth wants sports scores? Talk about a solution looking for a problem.
