That is so much waiting. Is the Beta version stable enough to use?
I think so :)

Come join us in the beta thread! From there you can get a general idea of more-widespread issues and see if it’s maybe something worthwhile for you. But so far for me in my subjective experience it’s very quick and stable, and battery life seems nicely improved over the 16.1 RC and final.

It might help @Chazak out with some of his battery life woes, too, if he’s up for a ride on the beta train :)

I was really excited about the lock screen widgets. But there is barely any space for them. I have about 5-6 widgets I would like to use, but can only get 2-3 in with the meaningful info I want. I'd like Apple to open up an extra row or two.

Agree with you but don’t you think that is going to drain the battery life?

Mid December??!?! Oh god! I’ve been waiting for freeform app to use in college. The year will be half over. Guess I’ll have to go buy endless paper… So irritating everything is delayed these days.

I don’t think that it is necessary “delayed”. The current trend for business entities is to announce their “roadmap”, creating anticipation with users for new features, and hopefully keeping them engaged until the next roadmap announcement. Apple is usually pretty clear with their messaging of “coming later this year”.

Where they do well is by making these new features available across their user base at no cost (though that seems to be changing with the introduction of emergency satellite connectivity). Other companies usually spring additional licensing fees or subscriptions on users to gain access to newly released modules.

Overall, Apple still provides good “bang for the buck” with excellent update support for older devices as well as reasonable access to new features for customers using devices older than the newest hardware version. Their default suite of apps and productivity tools provide broad functionality and usability, out of the box. Do they provide a total solution? Of course not. If so, there would be no need for the App Store.

What does it matter the size of the widget, if it’s running all the time anyway?
I think she was responding to the idea of having somewhere around twice the widgets on the lock screen (quantity versus size), which could potentially mean more of a hit to battery life. I for one have noticed better battery life after getting rid of lock screen widgets altogether.

16.2....now with more ads!
ahahah. I hope not. I noticed that iPadOS 16.1 doesn't have ads, yet (or at least it didn't seem to last time I looked).

May this who ads approach to the App Store sink like a rock in the sea, and quickly!

September cringe again. Too much Apple with all the other activities. The updates, learning new options, bugs, more bugs and more bugs. Not like I have anything to do other than Apple babysitting in the middle of December. I would vote for February to have all this happen. 😎

If Apple does not release beta 2 next week, then it is safe to say that Apple is on a two-week schedule.

Based on the release notes, iOS 16.2 Beta 1 is on the "E" build. Thats roughly 5 weeks if Apple chooses a 1-week schedule which would be the week of Nov 21st for release candidate. Week of Nov 28th for official Lauch

if Apple goes by a bi-weekly beta schedule, then the release candidate is the week of Dec 19th. Week of the Dec 26th for official launch.

Keep in mind that I am referring to iOS 16.3 ONLY. iPadOS/Mac OS could have their own release schedule as previously stated by Apple due to the delayed launch of iPadOS 16.

Announce Freeform in the summer and we need to wait till mid-December? Quite a few people have suggested that maybe Apple shouldn't do big annual updates anymore but push features out throughout the year so that things would not be so buggy. But see, they have already been doing that for at least a few years now, and things are just as buggy. They just announce everything all at once to give the illusion of a big update, but then they push out the features throughout the year when they are ready. And "ready" is a relative term -- Apple-ready is what we mean by public beta.

Week of the 26th? Aren’t they off until the new year by then?

Also, the lettering thing doesn’t seem to be an absolute for how updates pan out. Sure, it may be somewhat of a guide, but beta lettering doesn’t always seem to line up with what people predict in terms of development trajectory.

Due to the way the widgets work, it doesn't drain battery life. Apps provide the data in the form of a timeline and the phone displays it. It's pretty conservative with battery life - it's the same system for watch complications and the larger home screen widgets.

Apple and bugs are kinda just par for the course now (and been for a while).

I guess why are we paying a premium though if they’re just like Google and Samsung now?
If Apple is just like google and samsung, just why are you paying a premium for apple??? Just switch to another manufacturer and take the hate to their forums. Thanks so much!

Ah yes. Because Apple usually times their releases to cater to X or Y population need, right?

Brah, people these days find ANYTHING to cry about online.
