Give me Google Photos or give me death!! :) Seriously though, best app Google ever made!!! I'll hold off on the iOS update a few days and let them work it out.

God, people on this website are completely brainwashed thinking everything Google = bad. I'm sorry, but if you use ANY platform other than macOS and iOS then iCloud backup is trash. The iCloud photos website is so bad it's almost unusable. Google Photos website is 10 times better. But I know it's hard to expect much knowledge from people who have never set their foot outside of the Apple's ecosystem.

And the privacy thing - my dudes, by simply connecting to the internet you've already forfeited any rights to privacy. If you think Apple doesn't spy on you, then you simply choose to believe their advertising.

Maybe because Google’s tracking broke. 😂
All their apps track you, why else is it free? It’s feeding their advertising revenue.

Child, I switched from Google to DuckDuckGo as my default browser. Moved from the well integrated Google Photos back to iCloud Photos. Requested to turn off targeted ads, which their little site applied to majority of the web. I also use ad/tracker blockers in tandem with Safari’s built in protections. I tore Google out of my life like a tapeworm. All that’s left to do is start signing up for new accounts with an alternative email address. Still on Gmail regrettably.

Speaking of Google apps broken, the latest update to the Apple TV 4K latest and previous versions somewhat breaks the YouTube app. It logs you out and makes it difficult to log back in. When I logged back in, it constantly kicked me out. Even deleting the app and re-downloading it didn’t fix it. Finally, after another login failure, it sent me to a different screen that did let me log in properly. I’m not sure of the proper sequence of events to fix it, but this problem happened on at least two Apple TV’s.

Just to note, back in 2019 (four years after launch) Google Photo's had 1 Billion Users.
Four years on from that in 2023 I would guess that's a lot higher.

I know we don't always like actual facts here, but felt it may help some less biased readers :)
Exactly

What I find funny is the people clowning on Google Photos think that their snide little snipes actually account for anything in the real world. We get it, you don’t like Google. So what, no one cares 😂

It’s like Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge truck wars. Just a bunch of jerkwad keyboard warriors with verbal diarrhea thinking that their opinion is going to magically sway someone else.

For me it is the other way round. Google Photo was very unstable and every time I opened a shared album it crashed. But today it is quite fast and stable.

Still seems to be working here. I use it as a second back up to iCloud Photos anyway so I’m not bothered if it doesn’t work for a while whilst the bugs get ironed out.

Multiply 50GB by 1+ million users? That's a ton of infrastructure to pay for without actually collecting any revenue for it. Talk about entitlement. Nothing in life is free.
I don’t think it has anything to do with entitlement. I believe Apple should increase the free storage tier to line up with the usage of their customers and the storage capacity of their own devices. For example, the original iPhones had internal storage of 4 or 8 GB. Now they start at 64 GB. And Apple has over one billion iPhone users today. The potential revenue would remain enormous, so they would (presumably) still make plenty of money from the higher tiers. I need at least 200 GB and would move to a higher tier if it wasn’t quite so expensive — or if the Apple One bundles offered more storage for the price. As I said in my original post, this is simply my personal opinion.

Works OK for me…

It's hilarious seeing the sheeple here simply blast Google Photos. Let me guess 95% of the complainers about Google Photos have never even tried the product or service. It's a good one. It's simply disturbing to me how so closed minded some people can be to complain about something they don't even understand.
100% Agree.

It is an excellent additional backup for all my iCloud Photos.

I have no idea why people feel so compelled to limit themselves…
