Long story short, this is a first for me ever having any sort of software update issues with iOS. The few years I strayed into Android OS, not so much, which is one of the reasons I eagerly went back to iOS in the Summer of 2016.

I went the update via iTunes/Desktop route. My iPad updated just fine to iPadOS 16.4 (OTA).

The progress bar seems to be taking forever with this status.

Then it went into recovery mode. I swapped out cables. It's back to updating as of now. It quickly went back to the roughly 90/95% complete mark seen in this screenshot. How long did it take for updates on your devices?

My real concern here is I will be travelling to Houston later today. I can't take my desktop with me. When should I seek Apple Support, or should I just show patience?

Any feedback or recommendations would be appreciated.

Update... it finally completed the move 16.4.

Mods, delete this thread as you see fit.

Well, one time my iPad mini just refused to accept touch and went black (battery was at 90%). Then it rebooted with zero issue.

So, apparently once in a while something just flukes o.o;;

This is true, and I’m pleased to report my update concerns are now a thing of the past
