Apple has ramped up internal testing of iOS 16.6 over the past week, according to a reliable source of information. This suggests the first beta version of the update will be seeded to developers and public beta testers in the coming days.

Apple confirmed that iOS 16.5 will be released to the public this week, so the first iOS 16.6 beta will likely be made available either later this week or next week. Apple has been internally testing iOS 16.6 since at least early April, and it will likely be one of the final updates in the iOS 16 software cycle, as Apple is expected to announce iOS 17 at WWDC next month and shift its development efforts towards that update.

iOS 16.6 will likely be a smaller update given that iOS 17 is on the horizon, but it remains to be seen which new features, changes, and bug fixes will be included. Apple previously announced that iMessage Contact Key Verification would be available in 2023, but it is unclear exactly when the optional security setting will launch.

iOS 16.6 should be released to the public in the weeks after WWDC, which begins June 5. There is no sign of Apple testing iOS 16.7 yet, but it's still early.

It’s the same thing as last year. There was an iOS 15.x beta released a week or two before WWDC and then on that day the iOS 16 beta was available at the same time.

I always wondered who would stay with the 15.x beta when the 16 beta was also available at the same time.

Will be upgrading to iOS 16.5.1 as soon as it is released so I can take advantage of Apple Savings.

Yeah we kinda expect the first beta this week. Hopefully the public release of iOS/IPadOS/TVOS 16.5 and MacOS 13.4 is in the near future.

Yes, it is happening, we need 6 betas of 16.6 to make sure everything smooth and ready. We’ve waited for this time, for too long..🔮

Thank you iOS 16.. you were a good stable OS after a long time.. and a special thanks for all the new emojis that I would have never cared for anyway.

That’s an awful excuse to avoid innovation.
I'd almost agree, but major changes in the user interface of Android (not to mention changes in the cellphone maker skins!) has caused some apps to not work that well. iOS 17.0 will be essentially iOS 16.x but with some changes for legal compliance in other countries. A more drastic UI change may come with iOS 18 in 2024.

NO. Too much drastic change in iOS causes too many potential compatibility issues with apps.
Maybe, maybe not. If the stage manager is testing the waters, they could possibly achieve some GUI changes that wouldn't be like what you are worried about. They do have several months to perfect this before its release late Sept.

We are ready for something new, the Homescreen is old enough to drive, will be going to college soon, and is still wearing a onesie!!

but onesies are so comfortable....

An updated Homescreen would be nice. A little more customization perhaps? But I understand the uniformity and consistency. Change for the sake of change isn't that great. Hopefully any changes will have nice usability enhancements we didnt know we needed/wanted.
