Why do I need a camera widget when swiping left brings up the camera? Why can’t I get rid of the flashlight widget, which I accidentally activate in all situations other than when I need it? Without force touch these things are a nuisance.

It sounds like we’re going to have to wait for devs to update their widgets to get them to work on the Lock Screen. I wish this would’ve been just automatic.
Always-on compatibility probably requires some adjustments.

This is Apple Watch faces ported to the iPhone. The widgets are actually just complications.

Still no way to disable the flashlight and camera icons on the lock screen? The countless times they are accidentally pressed waisting my battery away..

While I love the versatility of this, I found the designs shown in the keynote horrible....

Widgets are not bad... a good start anyway.
The battery widget still needs help as it won't show the phone's battery, only my watch.

It looks like we FINALLY may get AOD on the Pro's this year!! A couple of these screens look perfect for AOD with the widgets.

Am I the only one who thought this would be a bigger release?
I actually love it when apples focuses on refining and better integrating previously released features rather than coming out with flashy new ones. The interactive dictation is going to improve my iphone experience beyond belief. so is the scrolling notifications and real time content at the bottom of the lock screen. these have the ability to solve major pain points in daily use. These things don't make for a sexy press release, but they reduce 1st world human suffering in ways you probably can't even see yet. ;o) Tracking your Uber with live content on your lock screen is just scratching the surface of the usefulness of this technology.

Um well the lock screen update is nice, long overdue, I think my favorite part is that you can have the live weather on the entire screen. That was one of my favorite jailbreak tweaks like 7 years ago. Complications, about time as well, but, but, literally nothing for the Home Screen? Same Non-interactive widgets? Same grid, same dock, same status bar, no customizability at all unless you want to use shortcuts which has its drawbacks and is cumbersome. iOS 16 Home Screen looks exactly the same as the iOS 7 Home Screen, not counting the dock and wallpaper it’s the same as iPhone OS 1. Yikes! Ancient and boring af.

How do i get this live weather on the home screen

Lock screen brings new fonts... cool, except there's one other thing:

Can't set a size for it

Which feels just like reading this post: a pretty bad experience.

Is there a way to create an image with depth data that the iPhone could use for the Lock Screen, without using the iPhone camera?

I very rarely use the camera on my phone, opting for my mirrorless instead and I know I have some pictures that would look great as a background on the new lockscreen with the depth effect for the time…

Another disappointment: Can't set different pictures for lock and home screen.

What year are we heading to, 1997?

Anyone know when the jailbreak for iOS 15 comes out? That seems like an infinitely better option than this stock iOS 16 crap.

One thing i'd like to know is how visible multi-app notifications are with this update.

*And*, how live activities (music etc.) interacts with notifications. Will notifications just get hidden behind the live activity, or will it be shoved upwards a bit? Or will they be auto-hidden to a text blurb?

Do notifications still come from the bottom even without widgets?
AFAIK, yes.

Widgets are not bad... a good start anyway.
The battery widget still needs help as it won't show the phone's battery, only my watch.
Third party widgets like PowerToYou (see a list here) can use WidgetKit to add a widget on the Lock Screen which do show the battery percentage of your iPhone, iPad or any other (third party) bluetooth devices for that matter.

NO, you can still use two different backgrounds for lockscreen/homescreen.
Can you? How?

As far as I can see, when you select “add new wallpaper” and you select the picture option, when you select the picture on the Home Screen it changes it on the Lock Screen as well. And you are stuck with the chosen theme: if your Lock Screen has an astronomy theme, there is no way to pick one of Apple’s default wallpapers.

Happy for directions, then.

in Settings->Wallpaper you can add different backgrounds for LS/HS.

The Apple provided backgrounds seems to be gone - closest is now the so-called Collections. I cannot set these as HS unless I set them as LS. Then I cannot change the LS to a picture.

And the two pictures is buggy: you actually have to step out and back for the thumbnail images to reflect your changes, which is dumb but seems the case for the very first beta.

Finally some level of personalization for the home screen. Wonderful.
