For years I've successfully used the 'swipe from right to left on lock screen' function to open the camera. Now it fails more often than not, especially if there is any alert, in which case it never works and I must select the camera icon in Control
Centre, by which time whatever I wanted to photograph has moved. I just returned from a vacation, and this annoyed me about 10 times every day!

As an aside, it's also become a pain to close Control Centre by touching the top of the screen, as you can now access other apps up there, like the ones related to the fancy new Lock Screen with the world, so touching the top now opens different things rather than close Lock Screen.

Is anyone else having this camera issue? It's doing it on my personal phone and work phone, both modern iPhone SEs.

On a 13 Pro Max here and normally don't access the camera that way, but I just tried and it often took quite a few swipes before it "grabbed" the lock screen and let me "slide" over to the camera app. Didn't seem to matter where I started to swipe (left/center/right) - all were hit and miss. But the camera can just as easily be accessed with a long press of the camera icon at the bottom right of the lock screen, though it does take marginally longer.

I’ve checked on my 14 Pro Max and the camera opens every time. So I have no problems with that.

FWIW, when I DID get it to work on my 13PM, it would then work without fail. What I mean is that if I saw my swipe was registering, I would let go without actually swiping all the way into the camera app, and I could repeat that partial swipe over and over again with 100% success. However, if I pressed the lock button to turn off the sreen and then brought up the lock screen again, my next swipe attempt seemed to fail about 50% of the time . . . I might have to try 2-5 times before it would register again, and then I could do it over and over without issue until the next time I turned off the screen and brought the lock screen back up. There's definitely something weird going on. I never have these issues with any other swipe moves e.g. Control Center, exit app, switch apps, etc.

Exactly this. If it works, it works, but it simply doesn't all the time. I believe it's mostly notifications clashing with it, somehow.

On the SE models there is no camera icon to long hold on the Lock Screen, so I don't have that alternative...

There were no notifications on my lock screen when I was testing it.

Strange how the SE doesn't have that. I actually used to own an SE (2nd gen) and don't remember that. Thought it was just standard across all models (at least fairly modern ones) running the same version of iOS.

iPhone 13 Mini here and… you are not wrong.

Definitely a lot more hit and miss for me since iOS16. I thought it was my screen protector at first. Took it off — grrrrrrr… and swiping still misfires.

In fact I have now resorted to just long press the Camera icon.

Frustrating.

Apple seem to be ignoring glitches more than usual the last few years.... I say that as an Apple user since the 90s. I don't know how Beta testing couldn't be picking this stuff up- it must be- but they are choosing to bury their heads in the sand.
