Ha ha, I try to read as little as I can on my phone. All of those things I do on my Mac) But I hear you.I sometimes do use it for more task oriented things, assuming it’s a task oriented thing that can be done on the watch. The phone can be a bit of a black hole for me at times (sometimes it’s reading too many Wikipedia articles, sometimes it’s YouTube, sometimes it’s spending too much time on MacRumors!). I’m sincerely trying (but struggling) to reduce my screen time on my phone, and, when I can use the watch to reduce that time, that’s great. Especially when it would be annoying or potentially dangerous to have my phone out. (I have an app on my watch right next to the clock app that shows me the next trains at the subway station I’m at. That way, I can check without needing to pull my phone out, which is nice because someone tried to steal my phone from out of my hands once.) But I definitely don’t use it as much as I could.
This 💯. Or better yet, they should add "Today" as an optional swipe feature on the individual reminders themselves (today "Flag" is the only choice).I'd like to create a smart folder that is a refinement on "Today". For example, all in Today that are High Priority, or all in Today that are Flagged.
Anybody knows how to do that? The "due date" constraints do not act as "Today".
Definitely. 👍
One of the most useful apps for me.
Not just quick notes, but drawings, images you name it. Together with Handoff it is a dream over all my Apple devices.
My Notes app is akin to an overstuffed physical notebook held together by elastic bands. Just with the ability to search.
Reminders is also useful, but there is definitely a bug with the UK Location info. Remind me when I arrive at XYZ place does not work very well. Why give me addresses of places miles away? It is obvious I need the closest locations first.
Truly Apple 😅Note that notes locked with your passcode can only be viewed on devices running iOS 16, iPadOS 16, or macOS Ventura. Devices running older versions of iOS and macOS will not be able to view passcode locked notes.
It’s called Signal NYC. I imagine it only works for the New York City Subway (and possibly the Staten Island Railway) and not the commuter rail, though. I think there are similar apps for some other cities, my brief search of the watchOS App Store suggests that that’s the case. For something not quite as seamless but that supports more cities, the Apple Watch app for Transit is pretty good. (I’ve got it on my watch, too, for buses and commuter rail, when I need to use those. But most of the time, I just need Signal NYC.) While I’m suggesting good NYC transit Apple Watch apps, I’ll make an endorsement for SubwayStatus Complications, which offers a complication that shows a circle with different wedges for the different lines you’re interested in and a circle around it with a color representing the current status. If you tap on the complication, you can see the current status of the lines you selected.Ha ha, I try to read as little as I can on my phone. All of those things I do on my Mac) But I hear you.
Btw what app are you referring to in regards to the train? I don't know what city you're in, of course, but you never know![]()
Have you tried shaking the phone or tapping the screen with three fingers? Those are system-wide undo and redo gestures, and they work with Notes, too. They’re not the easiest gestures in the world to discover, though, that’s for sure.Glad to see Notes app improved, but I wish the iOS Notes app had an undo and redo feature. Often accidentally delete large portions of content written into it. Doh!
Well, here’s an example from GTD. There’s a concept called “Contexts” that refers to the specific place you’re at. It doesn’t make much sense to think “I need to buy flashlight batteries” in the middle of an extended power outage, but it also doesn’t make much sense to think “I need to buy flashlight batteries at 2PM at work”. It makes the most sense to think about it when you’re at a store with flashlight batteries or when you’re making a shopping list. GTD uses Contexts to provide metadata about (eg) where a task can be performed, what state of mind you need to be in (a “Quick Wins” list), or what tool you need, and you’d filter it in some way so you can see only those tasks appropriate for precisely where you are and precisely what you’re doing at this moment, that way you’re not overloaded with everything but nothing slips through the cracks.I didn’t read article thoroughly, but if you have to get that granular with a To Do list or a note, it kinda defeats the purpose. I make a quick shopping list when I’m ready to use it, and boom, I’m done. Don’t need to assign to a folder, or share it, or have it remind me at a certain time, or delete it on a certain date, or send me money, or wipe my bottom, or all these things. K.I.S.S.
Wow, thanks for these suggestions! In NYC I've always used Underway, it seems to have worked the best for me, but this isn't on the AW(at least I never had it there). It’s called Signal NYC. Oof, that means that the N, Q, R, or W has delays or service changes or something. Oh great…, I’m needing to take the R in less than a half hour!Wow, thanks for these suggestions! Thanks for suggesting this complication! It looks like an amazing thing, but for some reason it's just showing me a red circle around the line I selected and the last update is from '21))) Maybe I have to actually be in NYC in order for this to work, I'll check it out next week!
I also installed Signal, thanks again for your wonderful tips!
p.s. This is what the complication looks like for me right now)

Apple offers CalDAV for sure. Calendar sync works great. However they broke the standard by breaking their own reminders app to not properly sync via CalDAV on macOS a few versions ago. Why Apple does such things? I don't know, maybe to push people into iCloud which is not end-to-end encrypted, who knows 🤷I could have sworn Apple uses CalDAV. That’s how it can use Reminders with Yahoo Calendar, which uses CalDAV. If you’re asking about Google Calendar, I don’t think it actually uses CalDAV except as an import/export mechanism. I seem to remember needing to play around with a 3rd party app to get Google Calendar to use CalDAV and CardDAV back in the day.
I’m an OmniFocus user, but you’ve gotta remember that there’s a market for apps less powerful than Things or OmniFocus (especially for all the people out there not familiar with GTD). Heck, I’ll use Reminders as a pretty basic list app or as an email tickler file.things3 is much better than Reminders
They’re backed up in iCloud and the can be restored locally from recently deleted notes.Notes is a dangerous app to use. There’s no backing up of a note. One wrong move and things can be gone forever. I use Pages instead. At least with Pages things get backed up with Time Machine.
To undo shake your pad or phone. A dialogue pops up confirming the undelete. Kind of clunky implementation but it works. Not sure about redoGlad to see Notes app improved, but I wish the iOS Notes app had an undo and redo feature. Often accidentally delete large portions of content written into it. Doh!
So if something quirky happens like say if your phone was in your pocket or bag, a note pops open and the contents of the note inadvertently changes, you can restore a previous version of it like you can a Pages document with TimeMachine? How?They’re backed up in iCloud and the can be restored locally from recently deleted notes.
____ = Android phone?I use a different PIN for my locked notes like certain apps have a PIN / biometric unlock feature. I want a PIN for my hidden photos folder - I have photos of a girl and a guy holding my ____ and there is nothing wrong with that but they are a little NSFM (Not Suitable For Mum).
