So AirTags might actually have a use after all, in addition to finding lost items of course. Walking into the room "kitchen" AirTag is in will turn on the lights in that room for instance. So many cool automations.

Let's see if Apple ruins it like it does many useful automations by popping up a prompt you have to respond to before it does anything.
You can have an automation run automatically in the background... and without telling you. This was added with iOS 15. In iOS 14 it was added where it runs automatically in the background, with the notification at the top saying what was done.

I've tried to set location triggered automations to turn bluetooth on or off, and all I get is a prompt to run the automation when the location gets triggered. This is still the case in iOS 16 latest dev beta.

I hope this leads to being able to point your iPhone at a HomeKit device to control it like a remote control. This guy made a cool demo of this concept.

Seems like Apple might be working on this.

Another app that uses AR buttons to control HomeKit devices.

This might even play into the AR/VR headset that Apple is rumored to be to be working on.

I plan to configure my refrigerator to lock its doors when it senses me walking into the kitchen for ice cream at 2AM.
😆

Plus they will get 5G!
The era of implantable iPhone-like devices will be upon us before we know it. I often wonder how many people would consent to have something like that installed.
I was in my corner deli and paid for something with my Apple Watch. The guy behind me asked me if I had been chipped. Jeeze.
