An article about protection from abusers and the first name on the screenshot is “Amber”.

”On June 6, 2022, I became a public figure representing Domestic abusers and Macrumor’s trolling. That has to change”

This is just so fascinatingly Apple.

Tons of their competitors have almost exactly this feature. Apple's lagged behind on it for years, creating ridiculous scenarios where your iMessages get routed to a phone you sold, Find My and Airtags being used for rampant stalking, all sorts of problems.

But this isn't the fixing of a glaring oversight that's lasted for years, it's an original invention to solve an extremely sympathetic problem. Because they care.

I really don't mean to sound critical. They are amazing at this.

What this may do is make the head of certain relationships re-designate their partner's Apple account as a "child" account by changing the date of birth to place that person under 13years old, which will give that person access to all those controls including location tracking without the partner's ability to Opt-out in the way offered by this new feature.

You lost me at "rampant stalking." Seriously, put down the tabloids.

The point is the same whether it's all sensational or not. It's absolutely news they're reacting to. You could say the exact same thing to them for developing the feature.

(Though edit: I've known multiple people who have followed their/been followed by their partners by abusing Find My. It's definitely a thing.)

I hope people only use this when they are truly in a safe space because when an abuser sees they’ve been cut off entirely, they unfortunately might be out for blood at that point.

I know more than a few myself that think it’s perfectly fine to dig into their ex wife, ex husbands phone or location data and stalk them. It’s wildly insane that it seems common for people to think this is a mild issue. It’s so inappropriate.

Rampant stalking?

it was defamation trial, not an abuse trial, but the information that came out during the proceedings showed that both of them are abusers.
According to you and maybe some others. Not in my definition. Gotta do more than say bad words and assault some cabinets to be an abuser.

I had no idea this was for "Abusive Relationships". I saw it as a tool to quickly check for privacy issues on my phone. Used it to reset everything all at once - so much faster than doing it on an app by app basis. I think this would be useful on kids phones too as a management tool for their parents to check privacy and security settings, must enter the parent's PIN first to access the feature.
