Wait, wasn’t this always an option?

I’m either losing my mind or I swear I turned it off a long time ago (as well as keyboard click noise)

Unbelievable… waiting for this feature since the iPhone 5. I’m happy as can be.

Why do they still waste a big chunk of screen for just two icons - keyboard language and dictation?!?!?!

This is 10 years too late

Better late than never but yes iOS 16 seems to be playing some really late catch up to a lot android features today. Maybe that will quell the android keeps copying apple tantrums in here.

Who am I kidding. :p

Nice. I like this option. However until I can get a number row on top I will have to deal with an alternative keyboard still.

For me, this is totally unnecessary.

It just requires more battery usage, unless you really need to have the haptic feedback.
it really doesn't kill much battery, being on your camera taking one photo for 2 seconds would take more battery usage than typing with haptic feedback for a couple of days if you really want to compare battery usage wise

I’ll try it but I doubt I’ll use it. Seems like it would use more battery and wear out the haptics. I’ve noticed with Apple Watch the haptics seem to get weaker over time.

This could be an area to use AI, to guess
the right language. As a multi-language user, I am always with the wrong keyboard, massively messing up autocorrect

Like Android, Apple will let users enable vibrations on the native stock iOS keyboard for each tap, providing a physical confirmation for users as they type.

Apple says these vibrations help serve as a "confirmation" as a user types. The new feature is part of a broader slate of changes coming to the keyboard on iOS 16, including support for 19 new languages in Emoji search and improvements to the experience for Chinese users.

iOS 16 is a massive release for the iPhone that lets users entirely customize their Lock Screen and changes across the system. Apple just wrapped up WWDC, so be sure to stick around for MacRumors for full coverage of all the new updates and announcements.

SwiftKey (microsoft app) has the features already. it's irresistible.

This may be the feature I’m most excited for in iOS 16. I tried Gboard to get haptics but I find that Gboard is crap on an iPhone. And the haptics clearly aren’t optimized for that keyboard either. I trust that if Apple is enabling this feature they will make sure they use the Taptic engine properly for a tight subtle feedback vs an annoying buzz that you get on Gboard. Considering how great the other system haptic feedback is, this will probably be great.

This is the first WWDC where I’ve owned an iPhone. It is so much fun actually caring about the iOS updates!

It’s under settings -> sounds & haptics -> keyboard feedback

Toggle on haptic

Thank you! Nearly all the articles I found on this feature didn’t mention how to do it, the ones that sort of did just said “enable it in settings!”. There was me naively looking in keyboard settings for a setting for my keyboard.

lol no thank you
That’s literally the first thing I disable whenever I wipe my Android phone
LOL android has vibration touch versus haptic they’re not the same. Vibration is more aggressive and doesn’t feel real.

Try it with Grammarly app. Trust me, you are going to love it. I'm just happy Apple is bringing it.

Gboard by google is wayyyy better, it has haptic keyboards, darkmode switch feature, custom keyboard background to your loved one, swiping, many more besides the advanced grammar but it’s gimmick when iOS operation does it just right and it’s free.

Grammarly app is suitable for ESL people.
