I am seeing emails up top that I sent a week ago, I saw these a while ago and turned off the 'Follow-Up Suggestions' and it stopped them, but now I'm seeing emails in-between a new one and yesterday's that I sent last Thursday, There is no ignore options like 'Follow Up' when that was on. It's just a plain 'SENT' message in my INBOX. My iPad is still on iOS15 and synchs as it should. No doubt 16 will ruin that. But iPhone 8 on 16 is driving me nuts. It's always been spot on, until now. Anyone else seeing this weird behaviour who have turned off the Follow Up options. Thanks for any help.

I hate the feature too. The “follow up emails” option is turned off on my account but they still appear in my inbox.
Yep, same, Still have the problem despite it being turned off, and often confusing because it looks like you've got a new email at top, till you realise what it is. It's not differentiated in colour or appearance to a new email.

After all these software updates, and even a different and new iPhone 14, the 'Follow-Up Suggestions', STILL appear despite it being off in settings, and I still see 5 old emails I don't want to see up top, periodically.

Now I've got a different problem, An email I received and replied to from Wednesday, and not one I've sent, has just appeared at the top of Mail. Only on iOS though. Any clues?

This is happening for me now too. iOS 16.4

Clearly isn't going to get a fix, Different software updates, even on a different phone, and still happens. Toggle on and off as much as you like, but it still happens. Presumably not enough people have moaned about it for them to notice

Come on! Pull your finger out Apple. This is getting ridiculous now. Another iOS update and I’ve just got 5 email ‘follow ups’ from Monday, up top for Follow Up! Getting on my nerves. It can’t be that hard to sort. It’s OFF. It’s always been OFF!!!

EDIT: For the record, this problem is also prevalent on iPad iOS with ‘follow up’ turned off. As well

This is beyond ridiculous now. Why aren’t there more people with this problem. I’ve had it on two different iPhones. 8 and 14. It’s still coming up with follow up suggestions every other day and it’s always been OFF! How is this such a hard fix. It’s never been worked as it should be. Is there really so few people experiencing this problem?

It's doing my head in now, because for some unexplainable reason I'm getting a half dozen 'follow up' emails up the top of iPhone email. sometimes more than once a day, every day now. And toggle is STILL set to OFF!

Hi Peter
I too have this problem on my iPad Pro 10.5. Currently running ios17.7. I’ve had this issue for ages over several updates. I have follow up suggestions set to off. It’s driving me crazy. When I send an email, if I don’t get a reply, it copy’s my sent email to my inbox after a few days. It just looks like a standard incoming email, which makes it even more annoying. I tried everything but nothing seems to prevent it.
Did you ever resolve yours? It is strange that it only appears to be a few of us complaining on here. I joined this forum just now so as to add to this old thread.
regards. Another Peter.

You are talking about something called “follow up suggestions”. You can turn it off in mail setting but they still come!

The problem doesn't go away with 18 or 18.1 sadly. It's incredibly annoying that it's never been addressed and it's happened since the introduction of it. I turned it off from the inception of it and it's always ignored the 'off' setting. Also find it odd very few have this problem, and as you say it looks like new email coming in and it's not even differentiated.

It's always been off but makes no difference no.
I’m starting to notice that sent items sometimes only appear on my iPhone or iPad but not both. No logical reason why this happens.
Tell me about it. This is an issue I also now have since iOS18. It's messed up the IMAP settings, Another pain that hasn't been sorted in 18.1. Mac, iPhone and iPad don't sync up emails anymore. The old saying 'If it ain't broke'.... Well I wish Apple would listen to that saying. It's driving me mad.

Apple keep on adding yet more and more gimmicky “features” which almost nobody ever uses or wants.
They should simply go back to basics. Get the basic functions working 100% and forget all the BS features that are bloating the system to death. In fact this very feature “follow up suggestions” is one that literally nobody would surely ever want and for it not be turn offable is ludicrous. They should simple remove the “feature” completely.

As there only seems to be a few of us having this issue, I wonder if we are doing something different somewhere in our systems that causes it. BTW, I’m not using IMAP for most of my email accounts. Still on old pop3. I did wonder if switching to IMAP might fix it, but it seems from your experience that it wouldn’t.

Does anyone reading this thread, never get this issue? Or has anyone found that the “follow up suggestions” enable/disable toggle actually works As you would expect?

Trying to report stuff on the official apple forum is utterly pointless. It is moderated beyond belief. If you say anything even remotely negative, it gets rapidly denied by an official. Or you get banned from posting Or both.

I've considered switching to Android, but I’m so brainwashed with the Apple way, that I find Android impossible to navigate.

Which iPhone are you using? I use the 14. I've tried switching that toggle on and off a dozen or more times since this problem. It's also been reported, but so was the syncing IMAP problem and that still hasn't been resolved either on the 18.1 update.

There has only ever been one resolution offered for the IMAP sync problem, about the Path Prefix and the forward slash entering, but don't touch it as it got rid of all my other folders and just left the inbox. So why this is being repeatedly posted I've no idea. More than anything there should be a window for users to revert back to 17 after major updates at the very least, and not signed off after a few days, so we can have a functioning very expensive over £900 in 2023 phone. It's messed up my ability to work away from desk.

I've been on iPhone since the '4', 14 years ago, I could never go back to Android, I hated it even then
