I’ll still probably keep a subscription to Carrot. I love the ability to tailor the app to my liking.

It would be nice if someone would post a deeper look into the weather notifications. I love Carrot’s thorough options for notifications and the ability to set them as critical.

Good point.

Like after a certain time? or if weather drops to 65F etc?

I did love those when I was a carrot user.

Great. I will have to consider not renewing my Carrot subscription. Granted, Carrot has way more info. I think this might be enough for me.
I'll keep carrot just for the snark. And seriously, I get most of my breaking news from Carrot.

I wonder why the detailed maps are limited to certain region. It says US, UK, … but I live on the mainland EU just on the border where they stop providing hourly updates on precipitation. A few km to the west it works just fine. Is it a licensing thing? Better radars?

I'm really excited for this—both the enhancements for the iPhone and the fact that it will be available on iPad and Mac too. I haven't found anything for Mac that does what I need and doesn't require some type of monthly rental fee.

So lucky! We have boring weather in Las Vegas. It’s either too hot or too cold. On top of that, it’s dry. So annoying.

You are lucky, you get to see all the seasons. The weather below is in Fahrenheit. 🥵
I see it's going to get downright chilly next Monday! LOL

I will probably still use SMHI (Sveriges meteorologiska och hydrologiska institut)
They have a great website, that is usually extremely accurate. They have dissed the upgrading of the app though, but it still works. But website is great.
See how Apple will do comparing to our national service.

There is no good reason

They really need to divorce the first party App updates from iOS software updates
But then why would anyone want to update? They do it to get people in the door.

I've personally enjoyed the weather app thus far. Its kinda neat seeing "rain starting in your area in 8 minutes" and then whadayaknow, it starts sprinkling in 8 minutes

Sheeeeeeesh! It's just beautiful. Nicely detailed. The weather app has come a very long way. This weather app makes me want to live somewhere with higher weather activity instead of living in the desert, Las Vegas. I want to see all the weather animations 😍

The iPad weather app is a nice bonus added by Apple. Good stuff!
Move to Houston, TX. We have a saying here: "If you don't like the weather, just wait a minute."

The only problem is that the weather data in Apple weather is absolutely dreadful. At least here in the UK.

The Met Office is the gold standard and Apple really should use this for UK weather.

There is a degree of flexibility available, for example I have the weather widget on my IPadOS screen, touch that on screen brings the new deep sky based weather app. So you have choice to use what suits you. You can set up weather widgets on iOS and MacOS.
True. But maybe it could be the API element and that they wouldn’t want to limit it in some way? I may be wrong

I hope they are planning on expanding their most advanced forecasts beyond what DarkSky supported (US/Canada + UK/Ireland).
Regarding Deep Sky accuracy attributed to "aggregating weather data from a wide range of sources", if we knew what they utilized then we could discuss the "beyond" their current (US/Canada + UK/Ireland) limits.

I don't see what those sources are, anyone know?

The new app is built around a new iOS library, WeatherKit, which isn't available to previous versions of iOS. It also looks like it's using the new graphing library. WeatherKit is what will allow it to work on the other Apple platforms.

Dark Sky's API is also being retired soon, so older apps which rely on that will stop working over the next year.

Is there any reason this has to be an iOS16 only thing? Why can't it just be an app also available to earlier versions of iOS once released?
Apple: “Earlier…versions? I don’t understand the question. There is only the current version. There is only now.”

It is taking a long time the update one single app. I would want to maximize my purchase as soon as I could, not wait years.

Spot on. And astonishing some people don't understand that.

Will it allow me to customise the weather widget yet, to disable the next hour forecast in favour of always showing the hourly breakdown of the next 24 hours?

Does this also include an updated widget? My main dislike with the current one is if you want to see the hour and day forecast, you have to go with the biggest one. The Weather Channel app has this implemented much better IMO.
