Cool feature but I’ve noticed it cuts off the top and bottom a lot of times. Of course as I say that this picture I just tried it on worked nearly perfectly.

I really like the feature too — and the animation that moves around the image being lifted is great. It doesn’t nail every image, but for a first version it does pretty well — this will continue to get refined as with other features.

What I have noticed is that it appears to cut the top and bottom off, but if you paste it somewhere, the whole subject is there. It’s as if the preview has a max frame height that is deceptive.

how can you paste it over another pic? can't see the paste option in photos app on my iPhone after copying the subject from another photo.

Ah I now understand what you meant. This is very nice, thanks for sharing this with us. I hope they integrate this hidden option into the photo library!
You can do this in the photo library too...
  • View the photo and long press on the subject
  • Tap Share
  • Tap Save Image
  • The image is now saved to your photo library with the background removed
By the way, this "lift" feature also works on paused video, as well as images/photos on web pages. Here's me copying the subject from a photo in Safari (from this article).

You have to use a photo editing app. Canva and PicCollage have been suggested/recommended in this thread. I wish we could do it natively though.

Seems like the obvious second half, no?

They’re replacing the carpet in my wife’s office, so she has to move out and back in again. She sent me a picture of her Winnie-The-Pooh dolls in a paper bag. I tried to do the obvious on the phone … gave up, AirDropped the isolated subject to my Mac, used Affinity Photo.

I’ve been playing around and loving this feature the last few days. It’s pretty handy!

While it’s neat, I’m curious what people use this feature for. Unless you’re something like a graphic designer or make visual presentations for your job, it doesn’t seem like something most people would have any regular use for.

It’s a conversation piece, as you can see here 😀
