Instead of this useless feature, maybe try fixing the weird keyboard stuttering and distortion sound when switching between apps and typing.

Will we ever be able to edit the default calendar so I can only see the holidays that I want to see?

It’s looks like I’ve always got something coming up, but half the time it’s a holiday I don’t care about.

And furthermore lets you make a custom notification sound for any application.

And also lets you put icons on the screen where you want them.

Maybe Apple is finally running out of harebrained ideas and got down to the stuff people have been begging them to do for literally a decade.

Can’t imagine they’re making enough on the ringtone store to sacrifice all this good will

Shocking, they have such a great feedback system!

Seriously it feels like the feedback system is a scarecrow they propped up for us to yell at to keep us entertained. Doesn’t actually do anything but complaining to it makes us feel better.

It’s a lot worse. They purposefully do not fix bugs that are of minimal consequence or inconvenience when it costs time and money to fix.

It’s a simple business decision that these things aren’t worth their time which is very unfortunate

I was hoping we'd be able to set a default sound but then also an override for certain apps. Much like how notification settings work per app. Eg. Rebound for all apps, except Instagram which has Slide. Then I can tell without looking whether to give it more (or less) attention without picking my phone up.

I'd also like to see the option to disable the audible tone when the phone starts charging. I know I can do that with the ring/silent switch, but it'd be handy at night when I have to look at the phone and then put it back on the charger, but still want to hear about incoming texts or calls.

I think this is the first time I feel like Apple has listened to me 😂
After many, many feedback submissions over the years, this is the first feature request I have submitted where they actually implemented it.

Instead of this useless feature, maybe try fixing the weird keyboard stuttering and distortion sound when switching between apps and typing.
It's very useful. The new default alert tone with iOS 17 is inaudible to many of us with hearing loss. The long lasting tritone was dynamically louder and incorporated a range of sound frequencies. The low-volume, low-frequency default today just isn't heard by my ears.

Nice! Now, can we get a watch update to allow custom ringtones/sounds? Or mirror our custom ones on our phones? Pwease

I'd like different notification options for HomeKit. Unique sounds for individual door sensors for example.
Or HomeKit notification sounds on HomePod, even when its playing music. Currently you can only set a rule to play something which has a huge delay and it kicks out a playlist that was running.

Apple made the new default alerts that bad, that a common sense addition/fix creates synthetic joy.

Given how annoying the typing sound is in public anyway, I'd almost appreciate them removing it entirely.

Haptics for typing is tacky. It makes sense Android has it.

I never hear the keyboard sound in public, only Apple made movies and shows.
Just turn off the haptics.
I love having them and wish they could be stronger.
Same with the keyboard sounds.
Wish there was a way to only turn those up and not the ringer and the rest of the sounds.

Agree on keyboard clicking sound, never understood that ever since ICQ added it in the 90s, back when people were typing on keyboards that really did click. Why people want an artificial clicking sound I’ll never understand.

Disagree on haptics though. It’s good to have tactile feedback, maybe because I’m an old as just indicated by the ICQ remark. Android haptics are too intense, I think Apple got the balance just about right as usual. Haptics are one thing Apple always nails, in my opinion.

One thing Apple inexplicably seems to have always ignored, which every other platform supports, is independent volume control. Windows has had volume for each app since Windows 7. Android has lots of sound channels. Mac has one. iOS has two, kind of, if you press the volume buttons at the right time.

Even worse is the notification sound it plays directly into your earballs when wearing headphones seems to be directly dependent on the phone notification volume. So if you want it to ding loudly so you can hear it across the room, naturally you want that same high pitched sound played directly into your skull at 100% as well, right?

They really need to address that.

Update doesn’t address my concern. Was hoping I could change the default tone for alarms and have Siri honor it when setting an alarm. I hope iOS18, which is rumored to redo Siri integration, will fix this.

For now, glad to see a response from Apple on default tones.

Next they need to allow disabling AW ring when not being worn, if it's on the charger I don't want any noise from it.

Wait a second... people use their phone unmuted?
  • Every morning, after my partner leaves and I'm not wearing pants with pockets and haven't put my apple watch on yet.
  • When working on a ladder because I empty my pockets before going up so I have nothing to worry about dropping, but am reasonably interested if I get a message.
  • On the bathroom counter during a shower.
  • Laying in bed almost asleep, but waiting for someone to arrive home and text you

This would be ideal. It's cool that they're giving us the ability to change the default sound but I'd like to have more granular control for all apps.

Sound A for Social Media
Sound B for Home
Sound C for Weather apps

etc...
