I want everyone on the planet to use SILENT as a notification tone and ringtone. Nothing more annoying than hearing everyone's ringtones going off. Almost as irritating as cigarette smoke (which is mostly a non-issue now)

I leave mine on at home because I don't carry my phone around with me.

Ugh - No fix for using Siri to set an alarm with a default tone. I have a 15 Pro Max. When I use Siri to set an alarm. It defaults to NONE. Why set an alarm then? If I manually set an alarm, then set another, the new alarm defaults to the last tone I used for the prior alarm. But when using Siri, I get “NONE”. Seriously, if you can add a default tone to everything else, why not one for alarms? Seems so simple. Get it together, Apple. Search the web, it’s a problem.
Ok, I saw this and had never experienced this before so thought I'd dig into what I'm experiencing to see if it helps you?

Right after reading, I asked Siri to set an alarm for the very next time it could (2:01pm for me). After about 40 seconds, my phone (on silent) started playing a melody that I knew wasn't a default tone so I got curious.

Going into Settings > Sounds, I couldn't find anything set to the non-default sound I just heard. So I then went into Clock > Alarms and saw a couple of alarms I had set in the past but had been turned off. Digging into the first alarm with the "Alarm" tag on it, I found the uploaded ringtone attached to it, which was the sound I had just heard Siri play.

I think if you set an Alarm in the Clock app and change what sound plays for that alarm (keeping it named as Alarm (which I think is the important factor)), I believe Siri should play that tone for any future voice-requested alarms.

Just my experience, would love to see if this occurs for you as well!

I still get "Reboud" on my google Voice text notifications. I used to get Tritone. I can't even hear rebound unless I'm right by my phone. Why can't I change the sound on Google Voice? So messed up.

I guess Macrumors don't want to dive down the rabbithole of creating your own sound (personally I use Audacity and imazing to get my own custom made tones onto my phone). You don't even need to plug it in these days, and you don't need to pay for an imazing licence either it lets you do it for free. All the people who regularly text/call me have their own ringtones/text tones so that I don't even need to look at my phone to see who's calling.

Why can’t we make our own ringing tones directly without the convoluted process that has to be used.

Now if Apple would only allow other apps to choose from any added alerts & tones! Setting a system default from your own added sounds is a great start, though. But if you use a 3rd party app, you don't have the ability to select from those sounds.
Messenger allows you to set different tones for messages from different users. It's great, but it's not an OS-wide setting.

I want to be able to set a specific alert tone for a particular app, and generic for others. That way I know when to prioritise picking up my phone without even looking at it. THAT'S good UX.

I honestly don’t get why third party apps can’t automatically access the new alert tones and have to be individually updated to include them. Especially annoying with WhatsApp and Signal.

I want to be able to select from my own tones and alerts for all apps. That would be best.

A welcome change with the latest update. However option to change default sound should have been available from day 1

Microsoft Teams uses Tri-Tone by default and I thought I'd be able to change it with this new update, but apparently Teams has it's own list of tones in the app to choose from and they're all the classic iPhone tones.

This is great. Now they just need to introduce a way to change notification sounds on Apple Watch.
Totally agree; would love if it were just like the phone and each app would have them have the same sounds as they do as the phone. Honesty surprised they haven't done this much sooner!

A case where this would be huge for me is sometimes I accidentally leave my ESPN notifications on for scoring things for a team I watch. Unfortunately, with streaming being behind as it is, without knowing what the notification is unless it's the Messages specific sound, I'll look at my watch and inevitably get spoiled before the scoring play in question happens on the stream's side.
