My old buyers are going to be getting a lot of cat photos.
Oh wow I wonder how you think the fbi recovers data from apple devices nothing is never deletedHow is this physically possible? If you erase the device it erases the encryption key for the storage meaning nothing can be read, then it's resurfacing photos from where?
You do know that just because you can’t see a file in explorer on Windows it can still be at your hard drive? Not being able to “see” the file is a false security.Yeah, always hated it, that we users can't see the file system of our iPhones and poke around the OS.
And maybe not the type of cats you normally think of.My old buyers are going to be getting a lot of cat photos.
That’s what I would’ve thought, but until we know what the hell apple screwed up, how do we know it would even help? God this is just like Google’s update that was wiping people’s data out, except in reverse. Apparently Apple is no better than Google and their quality control doesn’t exist anymore.Knowing nothing more than what is presented in this report, I would recommend everyone enable Advanced Data Protection immediately. If the data is end-to-end encrypted then you should be safe from whatever major bug is allowing old devices to pull these photos.
Very simple. It didn't erase it, it just removed it from the screen, made it not visible, but the data is still there on the device.
Or something even worse…Wonder who will get someones dick pics
Apple’s software lately at its finest.
This is unacceptable for a company that’s „privacy focused”.
This is actually unacceptable for ANY company.
Nah… soon they will release M5 series and you will need those to regain control of your old deleted photos. It’s simply impossible without the special AI driven encryption and decryption on those M5 chips. Is this the end of Apple?
I know pretty well how operating systems work. You do know that just because you can’t see a file in explorer on Windows it can still be at your hard drive? Not being able to “see” the file is a false security.
The same FBI that paid $1 million to unlock an iPhone 5C?Oh wow I wonder how you think the fbi recovers data from apple devices nothing is never deleted
This is Apple's secret plan. Instead of owners giving away/selling their old iPhones and iPads when they upgrade, Apple wants everyone to buy new so owners won't have to worry about the new device owner unexpectedly having access to your old data/photos.This will make people think twice about giving their old phone to their parent when they are done using it.
Exactly, *should* is the key word. In reality, we know that many things don't work as they should. If they did, there wouldn't be any bugs, especially security bugs that sometimes are discovered years later.Maybe old iCloud information is still floating around the Secure Enclave? It seems unlikely iOS is still able to recover photos from the internal memory once the old encryption key is trashed. If that doesn’t actually happen it’s really bad news.
Yes old data is there, but it’s encrypted and the old encryption key should have been forgotten. Rendering all old files an incoherent jumble of random data. That’s how it *should* work.
You can undelete though on windows….You do know that just because you can’t see a file in explorer on Windows it can still be at your hard drive? Not being able to “see” the file is a false security.
