Maybe, which bugs are important and how many exist depends on how you use 17. I guess if you only email and TikTok, then there were probably not very many bugs.
True and if you are a comprehensive user of iOS 17 and use areas of iOS that are bug free you wouldn’t encounter yet many bugs either.

But my own wet finger on the air is iOS 17 is pretty solid, even if some bugs exist.

Still on 16.7.2 on my 14 pro. All is well. The only thing that I’m interested in updating to 17 for is the 48mp HEIF capability. Still haven’t pulled the trigger. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Not true!

They could stop with the numbering thing and proudly tout how "iPhone 15-18 works with iOS Palm Springs"

The tying things together is artificially done for marketing reasons
It need not actually be the way for any reason other than they have chosen to do so.

No, they design the new software mainly for the coming new devices, then just optimize it for the previous devices. Not releasing new software in a given year would mean releasing the new iphones with last year’s software or not releasing new iphones at all. Apple simply won’t ever do either.

Genuinely curious as to what your experience has been. Have you tried a restoring to backup or at least resetting all settings?
Notifications that are just white screens, the keyboard just straight up not appearing, Safari stutters like you wouldn't believe, alarms that are very hard to hear, even at the loudest setting (which you sleep through), and sometimes it gets very hot.

Hmm did it slow it down or was it the usual post-upgrade Apple symptom, where your phone runs slower for a couple days because they do only they know what in the background, and then it all comes back to normal?
I had it for several weeks, so at least in my case it was a slow down.

A lot of comments are suggesting that people are avoiding updates due to iOS 17 bugs but I doubt that. I don’t think there are enough tech savvy users holding out to explain such a large amount of devices behind on updates.

A lot of people only update when their device auto-updates & ignore the red badge in Settings.

I do suspect a possible bug though. I see way too many iPhones and Macs with Auto Updates on that
never actually install updates over many months, for whatever reason. Could be the user isn’t on WiFi + charging + locked, or the feature just plain isn’t working.

You remind me of this 2022 Mac rumors topic.
Given the number of iPhones and iPads in the world, it's not hugely surprising to hear that Apple's software update strategy proceeds in a staged rollout. By implementing an intentional delay of between 1-4 weeks for users with auto-updates turned on, Apple adds a level of protection for its servers so they aren't easily overloaded when a new version of iOS is released.
So it not uncommon for auto update to install over night in a much delayed manner a IOS update that is several weeks old. The user probably never notices and it is reflected against how many users are up to date with the latest iOS version.

For me, it’s certainly “I’ve learned from the past”. I don’t want my phone to get slower and I especially don’t want keyboard lags. A pity, as I was looking forward to having a better keyboard experience.

Odd, I have not seen any of those problems. It is interesting how different some people's experience can be.

Yeah. I'm usually one of those people who never sees the bugs people complain about, and I'm just in my happy place going "Lalala it just works (Siri excluded!)". But this release has been the exact opposite, and it's been a disaster on my phone and my daughters' phone too.

Not sure what your glitches are but aside from a minor UI glitch iOS 17 has been stellar in my 15PM.

I just checked on my 14 Pro on 17 and I have the option. These type of small random bugs are a bit more plentiful these days. Resetting all settings will probably fix it (a hassle I know. Log out of iCloud first if you don’t wanna lose all of your WiFi passwords)
I have a follow up question with your recommendation. If I reset all settings, how will that add the choice of “While using the app” in Siri & Dictation location? Won’t this option just put everything back to default on what is available on my 14 Pro.

What I was thinking of doing is waiting for a later 17.4 beta, which from what I understand, reinstalls the iOS 17 software. Do you think this might yield a better outcome since it will also keep the current settings & passwords etc? Thanks.

I never updated my watch to OS10. I don't like the vast majority of the changes they made so I just haven't. I am getting sick of dismissing the update request though. FFS stop bothering me.
Same here, and yep it’s literally every morning.

Same with both my Apple TVs. But that’s more frustrating, because the update remainder on ATV is somewhat designed to trick you

Oh man, I would love to be on the latest macOS, but things don't work that way! I update only some of the devices. Because new OS and apps is always removing functionality. e.g. I have iPad mini with old iOS, so I connect to my other Mac with also old OS. This is because I have huge books library and on the new Books app, I can't edit ****. Can't do author changes, groupings, collections, covers, none of the metadata. Wheres on the old OS I could do all that and some more. So for that reading devise I keep old iOS and manually manage my books and pdfs. Its also good to have older mac lying around, as I can also manage some old iOS games, upload them to my even older iPads or iPhones. Try doing that with new mac :D So I would love to use latest os on all my devises, but the stupudity of some features prevents me to do that. So latest os is only on my iPhone and one of the macs...
What versions are you talking about here?

Not going to try and convince you to update, just curious

I have set software update to only check for iOS 16 Developer Beta so as to not get any notification about a new update...

I would downgrade iPhone 11 Pro Max to iOS 13.7 and iPhone 14 Pro Max to iOS 16.1/iOS 16.1.1 should Apple re-sign/re-enable downgrades to older versions other than the one next to the latest available version...
I would really love this option, and it’s one of the few things I wish a government would step in and mandate. It’s my device.

I know it’s annoying, but I feel very confident that a full restore (using a computer) and then restoring to your backup (iCloud or otherwise) would help. At the very least, resetting all settings (more annoying truthfully, but can sometimes fix issues the other doesn’t)

I had a bug where safari would white screen and be completely useless for 6-10 seconds ever time I opened it fresh. It persisted through all the iOS17 betas, and into 17.2. I never seen anyone else mention the bug. Once I restored from backup, it went away.

Sorry for the late reply, what did you end up doing so far?

Thank you for following up. I actually reset location & privacy, which then gave the “while using app” option for siri. So the only inconvenience is re-approving a location option when opening any app that required location use.

Nice! Great thinking there.
