iOS 17 + AirPods mute settings not saving.

This has been frustrating since iOS 17 released. I want to press my Gen 3 AirPods button one time to end the call, and two times for mute, but this setting does not seem to maintain after a set period of time and reverts to two presses to end call and one press for mute. Is Apple aware of this?

i called support for hours.... now in march 2024 problem still not solved 😡
