Being able to charge the MagSafe battery pack wirelessly would likely make me purchase another. Seems like an obvious omission.
You can, using the iPhone. Not sure why it doesn’t work with the MagSafe charger. Maybe they need complementary coils.

Hopefully higher wattage for faster charging??

Then again, that introduces even more heat - part of the reason why I don't use wireless charging....
Why are you hoping for higher wattage wireless charging if you don’t use it?

I still bought too many new products with Lightning this year. Transition could have been a little quicker IMO.

I have been deliberately holding back until everything goes USB-C. I want new AirPods Pro but not until they update at least the case. iPhone 14 with no SIM and still with Lightning port was an instant dud for me.

Transition should have happened a year ago and even that would have been too long. If it isn’t complete by this Fall, well I would say I don’t know what they’ve been doing but obviously they’ve been working on the headset while everything else was kind of treading water. And getting stickers.

USB C for iPhone 15 is an instant upgrade for me. But I agree, I'll be surprised if they do that here in the states.

Everything needs to be USB C. My keyboard, AirPods, and phone. We've got a ways to go.

And when Apple upgrades, trust me, find family, students, friends, etc - they'll gladly take your old cables off your hands. No need to throw anything away.

Now that the iPhone mini is no longer in the latest lineup, they can increase the size of the MagSafe Battery Pack.

iPhone 13 Mini is still available.

Lightning will be around for a long while, with the caveat that you're not in Europe.

The wireless charging pad may be OK since the directive does not apply to wireless charging; but the EU may see things differently since it is a charger.

Apple isn't going to re-do their previous year products to include USB-C. They just won't sell them in Europe. iPhone SE and iPhone 14 will likely still be sold in other countries as usual.

Makes sense; when the reg goes in effect the EU is might only to get the latest USB-C devices; although the directive requires all "new" devices to be USB-C, so there may be a loophole to allow sales of older non-C devices past 2024.

I suspect EU customers will be upset if all manufacturers all of a sudden only offer their newest devices if older ones do not meet the EU USB-C regulation.

I was thinking the same thing... But then it dawned on me that I don't even remember the last time I plugged my phone in for anything. I just slap it on my wireless charger when I go to sleep... I have a wireless charger in my car, and I never connect it to my mac for anything any more. so in all honesty the port type on my iphone has become a moot point.

I'm pretty sure those products will be the same but with a USB-C port. And please fast charging support for Apple Watch, this is long overdue for a first-party charger

EDIT: I thought the article was about MagSafe Duo, my apologies
they do briefly mention the idea (though not present in the code) towards the end—and for the love of god, it is so long overdue. the Duo is definitely not the best multiple-device charger on the market but at least having that upgrade would make it a much better buy.

I’ve been meaning to find a good 3-in-1 charger for a while for this sole reason.

Yes the Mini probably doomed the current battery pack to being unsatisfactory for many of us who have one. It cannot fully charge a standard iPhone 13 or 14 to 100%. It’s okay as a battery extender but doesn’t do enough. Definitely needs to be big enough to get more of charge than it allows now. Tempted to buy the Anker one that has a 10,000-whatever battery.

The regulation only applies to new devices moving forward, existing Lightning iPhones are unaffected.

So Apple can continue to sell the existing iPhone 14 and iPhone SE with Lightning for years to come? How does one interpret those rules? Newly produced devices, newly designed devices or newly sold devices?

Either way, I'm not too concerned with all the existing Lighting devices I have laying around. I'm sure we'll be able to buy Lightning cables for many years. Heck, you can still buy serial and parallel cables on Monoprice.

The MagSafe charger needs a longer cable. 1M is unusable. Native Union and Nomad understand this.
Apple wants you understand that they sell 2m long cables 🤣🤣 . It is what it is, 1m usually is not long enough for nightstands anyway

You interpret them by reading the regulation which says that it affects devices which are released on or after the deadline. Devices released prior to the deadline are not affected.

That would be fine if the MagSafe charger's cable wasn't fixed.

My battery pack’s battery isn’t what it used to be. I’m hoping for a battery pack for my battery pack.
