I thought iOS16 was a minor update, but this... they did not do jack in one year
Hey, at least you can download offline maps now. That must have taken them like 11 months to implement. /s 🙄

In all seriousness this is a welcome feature for me, I work on the field a lot and more often than not maps will never load, pushing me to other apps like Google Maps. Now I hope a better integration of pins to the app is coming soon.

I was hoping for more Dynamic Island „features“ - I hope that incoming messages now are included in Dynamic Island and no longer in a separate banner. We‘ll see later.

Hopefully iPadOS doesn’t have to wait a year for this feature? It’s happened before where there was a discrepancy between iOS and iPadOS iMessage (you couldn’t edit, unsend a message on iPad).

Hey Apple, you know what would be a good feature? Fixing the Weather app so the low temp is the one for the end of the day instead of the low temp the night before. Seriously. I don't care what the 5AM low temp was when I'm up and planning my day. I want to know what the NEXT low is going to be. This is one of a few glaringly dumb things in the Weather app. The only reason I care is because this is the app that provides info to the watch.

I wished they had made some progress on security against phone snatchers, compromised passcodes, account hijacking and recovery, etc., issues that have gotten lot of attention over the past months.

Pretty much everything IoS 17 was a meh at best… clearly the entire company has been focused on Vision OS, bet the farm I guess.

I was really hoping for iOS 17 icons to turn into mac OS. Ughhh!

I too was looking for some kind of UI update, I mean there hasn't been much change since IOS 7...

No RCS messaging support though...

At this point, they might as well just add it, because these other updates are small in the grand scheme of things.

Let’s hear your extensive and brilliant ideas on what they should have done….we’ll wait
- Manual camera settings
- Control center accessible from the app switcher making it useable with one hand
- Notifications stacking from the bottom up in app switcher making them summonable with one hand
- adoption of the universal 'back' screen edge gesture from Android
- Position icons anywhere on screen
- Live wallpapers
- Custom icon packs
- Interactive widgets
- RCS Support
- Custom app catagories in library
- Siri commands from Spotlight allowing you to type what you want to do

None of this is rocket science. A company with the R&D of Apple should be able to support more than one OS at a time with meaningful updates

it annoys me how they hardly tweak the functionality of the OS anymore. This release seems more like App updates than anything else which would be much easier to do if they finally broke these off from the OS like Android / Google did many years ago

I assumed there would be some major updates to Dynamic Island - nothing.

Apple today announced new updates coming to Phone, FaceTime, and Messages in iOS 17 later this year.

With the new update, you'll be able to create your own custom contact poster with your photos or Memoji. This custom creation will then appear on other people's iPhones when you call them.

There's also a new Live Voicemail feature that provides live voice transcription in real time on your iPhone Lock Screen. Apple said that with this, you'll be able to make a more educated decision as to whether you want to talk to someone or not.

In FaceTime, you can now leave video messages if someone doesn't pick up your video call. They'll get a notification about the message and can watch it whenever they have time, like a voicemail.

Lastly, Messages has a ton of updates. There are new search filters, a new "catch up arrow" that quickly jumps you to the first unread message in a long conversation, and easier inline replying with swipe to reply.

Audio messages are also now transcribed right within the messages thread, and there's inline location sharing. Check In provides a way to give updates on your location within a messages thread, and if you're ever delayed it'll send an alert to friends.

Apps within Messages have been moved to a new "plus" button at the bottom left of the app. Stickers have been revamped and you can even create your own stickers and motion stickers from your own live photos.

These updates are a small portion of updates coming to iOS 17, so be sure to read more about the new iPhone software in our main post.

I use nair to be less hari.

Audio messages being transcribed is nice. I have exactly ONE friend who sends them to me and I would rather not have to always hold the phone up to my ear to hear them.

I really like the transcription features. Gonna be great for those long ass voicemails some people send 😅

Don’t care much for the stickers everywhere on the screen tho 🤨

The sleek UI was nice as well. 😎

MESSAGE SCHEDULING. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. PLEASE.

iOS 17 is more evolutionary than revolutionary. Thank goodness the headset has a crystal clear upgrade path.
