Omg, just opened the website to message that I’m looking for a new beta next week, as the recent betas have introduced back some of the regressions from the previous betas and BOOM… I saw Beta 2 is out! 🎉

FYI
Released Today to devs
  • iOS 17.3 beta 2 (21D5036c) - January 3, 2024
  • iPadOS 17.3 beta 2 (21D5036c) - January 3, 2024
  • macOS 14.3 beta 2 (23D5043d) - January 3, 2024
  • watchOS 10.3 beta 2 (21S5635d) - January 3, 2024
  • tvOS 17.3 beta 2 (21K5635c) - January 3, 2024
If only a RC after this then we are looking at public on Jan 15th or Jan 16th now. Just because 15th is a US holiday doesn't mean it can't happen. 😉

iOS 17.3 Beta 2 and iPadOS 17.3 Beta 2 have been temporarily withdrawn. Please see the release notes for more information.
I never saw anyone that complained about the retracted IPadOS 17.3 beta 2, likely Apple wanted to double check it also because of the commonality between the two. Note iPadOS 17.3 betas do not have back tab for example.

I update both my iPhone and iPad yesterday, haven't had any fallout yet, but holding my breath for the next fix.

Wondering if the new Beta 2 build will be available for those who managed to successfully update yesterday.
If it has a different build likely make sense to see the update for all. I still think it was a compiling error for the iOS installation package. I saw a couple of odd things running macOS update early when it was available yesterday. It started to download on one Mac then the download disappeared and I repeated it OK. In a another download, different Mac it said 43 mins to install. Canceled it, restated it downloaded normally. So all things considering not sure there weren’t server side issues.

i was successful downloading everything yesterday. iOS, ipadOS, tvOS, MacOS to beta 2.

This is the notice that was added to the 17.3 beta release notes:

I would expect that the replacement beta 2 would be an entirely new build that gets pushed to everyone, whether you installed the original build or not.

I wonder when the modified beta 2 will be released. Next week?

Depends on how quickly Apple engineering can reproduce, root-cause, and fix the boot loop issue. It could be a couple days, it could be a week or longer if it's a particularly complex bug (but I would say the former is more likely).

I'll probably be wrong on this, but I wouldn't be surprised if we just go to beta 3 next week. Based on trends to date, were most likely on weekly next week. So with it being mid day on Friday, I could just see a beta 3 on Tues / Weds next week.

Mileage may vary, I predict I'll be wrong. But it does feel feasible as a path they might take.

Mid day? It’s 9:25 am PST in Cupertino.
