Apple probably doesn’t assume that most people that are part of the paid developer program are only there for the betas, so no, not shady. Paid developer accounts aren’t intended for buying just to use the betas, they have a lot of other features and tools as well. So I don’t think that this is shady at all. Do the paid developer accounts still have all the tools they paid for? Yes. They’ve just improved things a bit for people with the free accounts. Why should members of the paid accounts be notified about changes to the free accounts? That’s not really how anything is done. I could see emails being shipped out to free account holders informing them of the changes since they’re relevant to them, but it wouldn’t make sense to send it to people who don’t even have the type of account which is being changed. 🤷🏼♂️.My point is, whether a mistake or not, there are a TON of people like me that no longer needed the full access to developer tools or never did. I used to just have to check apps from my team…but for years now, I just wanted early access to beta features.
Apple would have gladly taken my $99 with no proactive notification whatsoever of this change. Shady…
With all of the developer specific emails I received about making sure I had my subscription, how was this never mentioned?
