All in all ios17 is a great update. However there are some silly things that annoy me. Would love for you to prove me wrong by showing me how I’m not using it correctly or to share your own quibbles.

1) Contact card doesn’t work automatically. Sure you can set your ‘profile’ up but your contacts still have to go out of their way to select it for display.

2) Check In - cannot set up regular / daily check in. For example I want to know when my child gets to school. Every day. Why can I not do this?

3) Share AirTag - Apple have disabled this for AirTags belonging to children in your family group. Ridiculous. If my kid loses their keys, I want to be able to track them down.

4) Standby mode. There should be an option to disable charging when a phone is on standby mode. I have plenty of MagSafe stands but don’t want my already bad 14 Pro Max to be cooking all day.

Well you can't expect your phone to force another's phone to make these updates. One can override what you set as your profile and forcing updates would eliminate that. Besides, you have to remember that iMessage is NOT a traditional chat client. It's integrated with the universal SMS/MMS messaging and contacts, so forcing a "profile" update really isn't even up to Apple to make happen.

Use Shortcuts. At the bottom, select Automation. Then select Arrive. Plug in the school location. Select New Blank Automation, then Send Message. You should be able to get the rest from here. Setting the school location may be a little tricky... the initial location radius may be too wide, but you can adjust that. This will take a little experimentation to nail down. If you narrow the radius too much, you could get repeated messages as the iPhone thinks your child has left and returned but really just had bad GPS location information.

Well that does seem ridiculous if accurate. I don't have them (AirTags or kids!) so I have no insight here.

Huh? If you don't want it to charge, then don't put it on a charger?

Or just use the "find my" app to set up zone alerts...

Standby mode is supposed to be an additional nighttime charging feature. Why would anyone want a bedside style clock or widgets displayed on their phone when it isn't docked and being charged? People will complain that their batteries are taking a hit.

I can’t share any of my AirTags, I get this error on all of them.

I disabled Standby mode all together. Didn't have a use for it and leaving my phone plugged in all day for one feature is a great way to fry my battery lol.

I'm annoyed that the default notification sound is so quiet. I'm not saying I dont like the sound itself, I'm just saying I can't hear it even with the volume all the way up, especially in my pocket. Hopefully in a future update, this can be changed or improved. I'd love to have the ability to change the notification sound at the system level for all apps instead of relying on devs to supply notification sounds.
