Here are a few ideas for iOS 17:

Battery widget to show other autonomous devices’ batteries (ex. On an iPhone show me the MacBook and the iPad battery levels);

Apple ID synced staged roll-out for updates (otherwise I get two different versions of an app on my iPhone and iPad);

Left-handed mode for Apple Pencil (this is about iPadOS).

16 isn’t even in public beta and you’re already talking about 17…and I’m assuming you messed up requesting Apple Pencil for iOS.

Yes.

I’d like to write right to left.
but that has nothing to do with the using the Apple pencil left-handed, hasn’t it?

My guess here is that you want Apple to extend Scribble support for Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Pashto, and others (?) - typing support is already available (iPadOS 15.5).

EDIT: seems like Scribble in iPadOS 16 might support arabic - if that’s the support your interested in, you should check the iOS/iPadOS 16 beta- thread here.

Thst's interesting.

Thanks!!

What's wrong with coming up with and sharing ideas about future updates? You're acting like he's mad about iOS 16 or something.
Well, one tiny point maybe is that there is just a first developer beta for the upcoming iOS and iPadOS release which is gradually explored and functionwise documented by a relative small restricted beta audience… and from what the OP has written so far it seems that he/she/they isn’t really well informed about what’s available in the current and the upcoming release.

That seems to be true for all points made in the first post: while one can discuss - after all we’re on MR 🤣 - wether one really needs to install an extra app and wether Apple should implement a certain functionality, cross-device battery info is available with Cloud Battery. And updates seem to be already Apple ID synced. Also it seems that Scribble for Arabic is what he/she/they was looking for, which seems to come with iPadOS 16.

Of course one can speculate about the future - again: Mac Rumors, the indication is in the name, isn’t it? 🤓 - the nicer thing of course is to do it informed.

Aaaaaand everyone can feel that a post is ridiculous (or not) and express that. 😎 You might be completely wrong however. 🤣😂🤪😁

Cloud Battery has a widget to see other device’s battery levels. It’s not always 100% in sync, but seems to work okay. I think the app needs to not get frozen in the background for it to update? I can see the Apple Watch battery on the Mac, the iPad battery on the iPhone, and whatever else.

I’ve requested battery status for all iCloud connected devices for a few years now, it seems like a really obvious, helpful feature and Apple already tracks battery status in Find My. They need to surface the info more readily in the Batteries widget.

I'd also like to be able to arrange the settings app so I can put the items I use near the top

Message/WhatsApp/Mail unread notification counts on Lock Screen (not just “AOD”) if not in iOS 16

Now that we have the 14/Pro series, what do yall want to see in iOS 17? I personally want a black always on display (only shows time and widgets), and I want the dynamic island to be used for all notifications, not just phone calls. Changeable lock screen toggles would also be fantastic.

My dream list:

  • Fixed VPN
  • Allowing to disable auto update of AirPods, AirTags etc.
  • Lock Screen notification iOS 15 style
  • Background Activity real blocker (apps still work behind the scenes)
  • Fixing Cell reception
  • Removing tint around pill in dark mode
  • USB-C in full speed…
  • Reverse charging on iPhone for everything not only the Apple MagSafe Powerbank
  • Better Lock Screen management… as not every order of widgets can be set

I really like the state iOS is in at the moment - App Library, widgets and customisable home/lock screens are welcome, fun, and useful. I'm curious to see how the Dynamic Island and Live Activities evolve.

Beyond that, two things:

- I'd love to see Apple have another go at a mobile video editing app. iMovie for iOS was amazing when it first came out, but it's hardly been updated in years. It doesn't even support vertical video for goodness sake. A reimagined version that made smart use of ML to help the user out could be awesome. Modern iPhones shoot amazing video - I wish it was easier to do creative things with it.

- I've written this before on a similar thread, but I'd love iOS/the ecosystem in general to be much contextually aware of what I'm doing and what I might need. I can laboriously set up things like Focus modes to switch on at certain times and locations...but I feel like this is something ML could do for me. I'm sitting down in a meeting or a lecture? Have a correctly titled Apple note ready to go, with links to previous meetings on the same topic. It feels like we're inching forward to this kind of stuff (Siri suggestions for apps to open is pretty good) but there's a long way to go.

One thing I don't want - iPad-style multitasking, even on big phones. I love my iPad but it's danger of becoming a big of a complicated mess of different modes and gestures, even before Stage Manager. The simplicity of iOS something I really value.
