This was an option as far back as OS X Snow Leopard, or maybe even sooner.
Yup, I think Snow Leopard or maybe even earlier than that has allowed you to view the estimated time remaining until a full charge

Surprised it's taken this long for the iPhone

I mean, we kind of have something like this already provided you have optimized battery charging on and have a regular charging routine, a notification will show when its expected to do the rest of the charge past 80%

I’ve been waiting years for an SoC that can perform basic calculations. Apples engineers have done a fantastic job adding such computation capabilities to Apple Silicon.

The only thing I’d say though, is I prefer my chips hot. The lukewarm Apple Silicon chips just don’t taste as good as intels. I like a sizzle in my mouth as I bite them.
I mean we are coming into winter now, so having a warm to the touch laptop is nice lol

Hopefully, the iPhone 16 series will include a ‘Faster Charging’ toggle, allowing users to activate 45W charging when needed. This would let users trade a bit of battery longevity for convenience in specific situations—but after five uses, it will void the battery warranty.

Will be nice to have but this is another reminder at how far behind Apple is compared to their competitors.

That's pretty cool, although I'm not too bothered about how long my phone takes to charge. If they could tell me when to expect my AirPods to finish charging that would be genuinely useful to me. Even better, a notification popping up to tell me they're charged would be great.

Considering how most of the features Apple announces are cross platform, it is surprising that the macOS team and iOS team never talked about this together.

Time remaining on android is great. My pixel 9 pro has a lot of things that make me angry, but I love that it can drop on an apple wireless charger and charge slower overnight and it will optimize charging to be done when I wake up. iPhone users will love it.

Time left with the current battery and usage would be more useful, no? Basically like the miles left info in a car or the same info on the Mac.
But then users are confused when it’s less or more when they use something else on the phone, I guess. Obviously the battery must already be capable of calculating this, I just don’t know if many users wouldn’t be confused.

I can see Apple releasing two versions. A free one that gives a rough estimate, and a subscription service @ $5/month to tell you exactly when your phone will be charged! Well, it is Apple after all. They never seem to miss a trick to make a few more bucks! :p

Does this really help?

I don't think so.
The amount of display models 1+ years old I've seen for sale with near perfect battery seems to prove otherwise.
Keeping it plugged in from my other device experience seems to keep the batter in good health.
Seems like the cycles is the issue much more than how much it's charged up to.
