With iOS 18.3, Apple made a small but meaningful change to the way the Calculator app works, reintroducing repeating operations. When you tap the equals sign twice, the app will now repeat the last mathematical operation.

So, for example, if you type in 5x5 and tap the equals sign, you'll get 25 as a result. If you hit the equals sign again, it will multiply 25x5, and will continue multiplying by 5 every time you tap the equals symbol.

Repeating operations were an option in the Calculator app prior to iOS 18, but iOS 18 removed the functionality. Users who have missed the feature will get it back after updating to iOS 18.3. Being able to repeat operations is useful for calculating compound interest.

Note that this feature has also been missing in macOS 15, but the macOS 15.3 update reinstates it.

Why the hate towards Tim? He's doing a much better job than almost every other Tech CEO. Let's not mention other industries such as Healthcare, Oil & Gas, Airlines or Car Manufacturers. I for one enjoy the features of Apple Intelligence. Let's just hope the next CEO of Apple can keep up the pace.

Tomorrow Samsung gonna release AI features which we have never heard of before and Apple will surprise us by bringing back previously removed features in Calculator app!

If only they fixed system-wide input-blocking 'animation' delays (even when there's none showing), it would never have been an issue.

I thought that's what the y^x button was for....

Was not missing it much. Anyway good to see that now it is back and can be used if necessary. It is useful in certain cases.

I don't know how they managed to not have this in their test suite. I mean calculators since the 1970s have been doing this.

There truly is no Apple news that is too small or insignificant for MR

I don’t believe they tweaked it enough. I just downloaded the release candidate, and when I press a number and press the +, and then I repeatedly press =, the number should double each time I press =. It doesn’t. I have already left product feedback.

FINALLY

That was the worst change they made. I used that feature all the time.

Why on earth did they remove it in the first place? Seems so weird and arbitrary.

Maybe some Apple intern was cleaning up code and broke it by mistake?
