Its literally one of the very few Apple Intelligence features I wanted to try out, and I was very angry that they stiffed the 15 Pros. Yes I know i can do it thru the google app but I wanted to try the native integration.
Fair enough.

In hindsight, the 15 Pro is turning out to be one of the most future-proofed iPhones in quite a while.

Not only did the 16/16 Pro only get a minor cellular upgrade with the Qualcomm X71 this year instead of a bigger upgrade with the X75, but the 15 Pro hardware is adequate enough to offer all the same Apple Intelligence features that the 16 models have gotten so far. Aside from the camera control button and Wi-Fi 7, there is little else different about the 15 Pro versus the 16 Pro from what I can see.
I usually buy the pro max models, but base storage. I had a good feeling about the 15 pro max and went with 512gb

maybe to save face after having zero technical reason to not include it?

That isn't a valid reason to include it. People are bashing Apple for intentionally not announcing that they would include it which is a net negative overall for including it.

I just don't understand why this isn't a software feature. By definition this cannot be processed on device, it has to look things up. And for what can be done on device, there are already translation and calculator apps, etc.

Google just released an update to Gemini with exactly this, right from Apple's own fancy new Control Center.

This isn't going to drive me to get a new phone just for this, it's just going to encourage me to use Google's free version of the exact same thing.

Someone is going to say I'm being entitled and my phone does what it did when I bought it etc. But after more than ten years of disapppointment from Siri, and with them being publicly lapped again and again lately, they should be a bit more generous.

Why on earth would I want a year and a half old phone over a new one?! I guess if they don’t have the money seems to be the only reason. Then again I just got an iPhone 16 Pro max and can’t wait to get the iPhone 17 Pro, but I’m not poor. 😂
You know what they say, a fool and their money are easily parted. It seems like you are more concerned with the perceived status of a device more than its capabilities. There are very few differences between the two (.2” screen size, A18pro, chip, camera control, WiFI7, and slightly fast MagSafe). I’m also not poor, and making smart decisions is how one stays that way. If you have a 15 Pro, you don’t have a legitimate reason to upgrade beyond vanity.

If you have neither and you want it to be a bit more future proof, that’s an entirely different argument.
