That sounds like the most annoying group chat in the world.
Emojis date you, lots of people look in disdain at people using emojis. And emoji use skews usage-wise to older people so it's also seen as not cool

This is not my view it's what I've been told many many times

With this upgrade I hope Apple make it possible to add hidden location to emojis.

That's not the checkmate you think it is. Lots of companies are members, that's how standards committees work.

EDIT: To clarify, the members dont even come up with the emoji, they simply weed through emoji suggestions the public proposes and the consortium picks a few new ones each year.
Selecting Emojis from the public? How do I get a position on this committee, undoubtably on a six figure salary?

No wonder Apple lacked the time to get Siri operational. They were working on stuff like Emojis that are way more important than AI????
Order of operations:
Profits/Phones
Emoji
Services
Fruit rollups
AI
Pop tarts
Macs
Mac N cheese (heh)
AVP

It’s not really a salary at all from my understanding it’s just a committee. The Unicode consortium does way more than just emoji.

It’s all the iOS software engineers! They can’t innovate so let’s make worthless emoji’s.

People who get legit annoyed at the inclusion of new emojis sound like:

"Why are they making a new season of Severence on Apple+ while the iPhone battery life still isn't great?! Adam Scott needs to stop mucking around and write a fix for a wifi bug!"

I was going to wait until iOS 20.7.1 to update my phone, but now, I have a real reason to update. /s

Who is still using emojis at this point? My whole group chat uses gifs. Much more fun and expressive.
GIF is more fun and expreesive indeed. But most people around me like something can be showed directly in notifications, instead of [GIF] or [Someone send you a photo].

Great move. Why would Apple use its technical talent to make Siri actually useful when it can develop new emojis instead?
You'd be surprised how little skillset overlap there is between optimizing the quantization of a LLM to execute on constrained hardware, and making a playful drawing of a shovel.

Will we ever get a real gun emoji? Can I say the "g" word on Macrumors without a ban?
There was a real gun emoji. It changed when vendors realized that emoji are language, not merely symbols.

Once one vendor shipped with a toy gun, it meant someone on Microsoft sending a text message "I'm coming to get you! <super soaker>" was going to be misunderstood by someone on an Apple or Android device seeing "I'm coming to get you! <drawn firearm>".

Luckily you can send pictures, gifs and videos of whatever guns you want.

Who came up with pregnant bill gates though?
