so I’m not super familiar with the install process. What happens if Apple stops signing while you’re installing?
Well, the signing process is done before applying the update. So, if the firmware was validated by the server, it should continue with the update even if it was pulled.

So, I’m genuinely curious, as I’ve never been a part of any beta testing. Say I download a beta and it “bricks” my device. If it can’t be restored to factory settings and it actually is rendered unusable, what happens at that point? Would Apple replace it? Or, do I just have to eat the loss as I assumed the risk for installing a beta version?

The “rule” is to never install beta software in production. For the average user, his gadgets are “production” and so he should keep away from betas. This obviously doesn’t necessarily apply to tech enthusiasts 😉

So play at your own risk, huh? Well, I guess that makes me feel a little better that I don’t mess with it.

I updated to 18.4 beta 1 on my 16 pro max last Saturday, and out of nowhere my phone number has deactivated for iMessage on my phone and any attempt to reactivate it is unsuccessful. However, I can send/receive iMessage messages using my email address on my phone but that’s obviously confusing my contacts. I’ve tried all of the usual troubleshooting steps to get around the problem to no avail. Interestingly, I can use my phone number and email for iMessage on my iPad running 18.4 beta 1 without any issues.

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this. Even a full wipe and restore didn’t work, as Apple forced me to remain on the beta update channel if I wanted to download my backup data. Truly annoying situation. Hopefully the subsequent version will resolve the problem.

With issues even occurring on the final release version, it is quite scary to install the beta. Of course never install it on the primary device but still all the steps to go through to get the device working again makes it a hassle.

I was hoping that was the case. Thanks!

12 Pro Max. Wasn't able to install. Downloaded fine but kept failing when trying to verify before install, for three days in a row … prior to this announcement going up. So it never formally started the install process but got stuck in the step just before—which, considering it bricks some devices or goes into boot loop, may have been a good thing after all …
