Beta 2 - 22F5053f
Beta 3 - 22F5053j

Interesting to see the letter go to a higher letter and not the same or down. Beta 4 and 5 see you soon?
The letter never goes down with the same build number. The letter stands for the number of compiles for one specific build starting with a. When the same build is compiled again, the letter is b.

So build 22F5053f (beta 2) has been recompiled four times coming out as 22F5053j.

Pretty easy.

And called Beta 3 for whatever reason.

Still a bit crazy that, even after a year, the icons in the watch app, as well as the AirPods menu, don’t react to dark mode.

Messages and WhatsApp in CarPlay:
Siri reads a message
Siri, “Do you want to reply?”
Me, “No”
Siri, “Sending, ‘no’”

All that means is that they seemed to make probably a minor change (relatively) to the previous build but it took a few more compiles before it was accepted for release.

I've never understood why people get hung up on the letter at the end.

15 ProMax
YouTube - some thumbnails are coming up blank (new)
Safari - some tabs load all white. A reload does not fix. Closing the tab and reopening usually fixes (new)
Notifications - Summary - a mess as many summaries make little to no sense (existing - worse)
CarPlay - Messages - won’t come up on my Edge - Sync 4 wireless (new)
Wireless - 5G - will need to test more but signal seems to drop to LTE more often (Mint Mobile - TMo network)

Hard reboot didn’t fix anything.
Did an ipsw reload - no help.

Why come you don't have a tattoo?

Anyone else noticing flicker now in some widgets and overall after updating to beta 3? I’m on 15 pro with it always in dark mode. Never noticed it before until yesterday after updating.

You’re absolutely right that the letter at the end doesn’t, by itself, contain much useful information.

But as we get closer to a public release, the letter tends to get closer to “a”, not always —as we saw yesterday—but usually.

So people seem to think the letter can be used as a barometer of how close we are to public release. And therefore, how stable the build is.

Not saying that’s right, just speculating that’s why people get hung up on the letter at the end of the build number.

I wonder if they just updated the AI models, which has broken some things?

I think some people are misunderstanding what I’m saying. I’ve never seen Apple throw out a new beta without changing the number and just the build letter.

From what I recall in a thread way back it was mentioned how the letter, say b, likely won’t show any significant changes and mostly internal changes. Where a higher letter like j, has more changes ahead of it.

I don’t personally care what letter it is, but understanding Apple’s method of development could give clues to how they do things as an outsider.

Recently (not sure with which version), my Safari doesn't offer the option to long-press a link to open it in the background. I've ticked (and unticked and reticked) the "Open in Background" option in Settings > Safari > Open Links and select "In Background," but the only option I get is "new tab." Anyone else? Any fix?

UPDATE: Fixed with Beta 4

ATT 15PM, been having trouble with pictures not sending in messages. Doesn’t matter if it’s iMessage/RCS/SMS. They never send…

Is this beta any good?

(i am asking for a friend)
Can’t complain so far on my 15 Pro.
But honestly no huge changes from 14.0(.1).
Battery for me is mostly the same, Apple AI at least in German are still a bit strange still.
Animations might be a glimpse better than in 18.4.

Have to say that I’m more or less happy that this version don’t bring so much new. Hope they focus on ironing out some flaws and make everything a bit more polished.

Either gyro or the camera app is messed up. A reboot fixed it.

Also my phone still overheats as with Beta 2, I think this was expected, given the same build number.
