Additional Notes

To get the beta over-the-air:
  1. Enable Beta Updates (Settings > General > Software Updates > Beta Updates)
  2. Make sure you’re signed into the right Apple Account
  3. Select which beta you’d like to receive (public/developer beta)
  4. Hit "Back" and pull down to refresh
  5. Back up to a computer or to iCloud
  6. Install the beta
If you no longer wish to receive beta updates:
  1. Turn off the Beta Updates (you can also sign out of your Apple Account to reset this setting)
  2. Wait for the next public release or follow the guide below to go back to a release build
Troubleshooting: If the beta doesn’t show up on your phone, try turning on airplane mode, then turning it back off, or restart your device.

How to install using a Mac?
  1. You’ll need the Xcode beta itself or a MobileDevice.pkg somebody extracted from the beta (click with two fingers or control-click), then choose Show Package Contents. Go to Contents/Resources/Packages. - this will work on older Macs that do not support the latest macOS or Xcode betas)
  2. Back up to your Mac or to iCloud in case you need to go back to another version
  3. Hold down Option, then click on ‘Check for Update’/‘Restore iPhone...’ and select the IPSW file you downloaded from the Apple Developer site. Note: You must be connected to the internet to complete the restore.
  4. Enter your iPhone passcode if you’re prompted to do so.
Notes/Tips:
  • Always keep a backup in case you need to restore your phone
  • Restoring wipes your settings and all data on your iPhone
  • You only need to reinstall MobileDevice.pkg if your Mac stops recognizing your iPhone
  • There is no MobileDevice.pkg equivalent to iTunes for PC which would require a new iTunes to support new/beta iOS
  • Upgrading to a newer iPhone? You can update using your Mac before setting up the phone

My music library got botched. I get “unavailable in your region” message for random song, which, are very well available in the current region.

Just an observation. While most builds become a public release by build 60-80, interestingly, x.4 releases end up being released with a much higher build number, such is the case of iOS 18.4 being the build 240 (22E240).

Hover, the 18.5 build is back to 76 (22F76).

I know Apple works on the x.4 simultaneously along with the initial version of the system, in parallel. Maybe that’s the reason of the high build number of x.4 versions…

Consider yourself lucky. I’ve been seeing this for years. Just listened to this full album a couple of weeks ago and as of this week, track #2 (and ONLY that track) is no longer available in my region.

Same been seeing this for years as well where songs in my library just randomly become “unavailable in your region” and take months before becoming available again.

I constantly have Cloudflare VPN enabled for WARP+ and with the RC the battery life was really good. I only don’t know if it’s a bug from Cloudflare or iOS that this VPN connection reloads often and at the moment when I’m unlocking my iPhone I don’t have any internet connection (VPN works) for a few seconds.

I saw some comments in the 18.5 RC thread that SMS/iMessage weren’t syncing properly between iPhone and iPad. Is that still an issue on this released version?

I’ve regretted updating from 18.3 to 18.4 as that introduced visual notification jankiness, Mail notification issues and played Podcasts not automatically deleting after 24 hours. I don’t want to update to 18.5 to add another new issue..!

Previously I could change the keyboard language and invoke the emoji picker inside iPhone mirroring on my Mac, now with this version it does nothing. Not sure if it's iOS or macOS fault.

I updated from RC 1 and it broke the phone app icon. It appears, but when I open the app, during the animation it loses the icon, showing the same icon when it can't find it or it's not there. The same thing happens during the closing animation, and the icon doesn't appear until it finishes. Restarting again doesn't help. I've noticed that it only happens with icons in dark mode; this problem doesn't exist with light mode.

Yes. It’s still an issue. I updated today and it’s not fixed

Another example of deteriorating leadership at Apple.

One is spelled out while everything else is a number.

I still remember being blown away the first time I held an iPod Shuffle and a MacBook Pro. These days, it’s cuz the other options are a privacy nightmare.

UI/UX is quite cozy in the backseat at Apple under Tim.

All the different updates of ios18, I’ve had stickers turned off in keyboard settings, but stickers still appear in the emoji keyboard.

Almost 8 months later, 18.5 still hasn’t fixed it.

At this point I don’t really care that much, but it’s also possible that it’s really really pissing me off but some self-preservation part of my mind is concealing the rage from my conscious awareness.. like how hard is it to hide the stickers when I have them disabled. It used to work that way.

Do they just not care?
