Additional Notes

To get the beta over-the-air:
  1. Enable Beta Updates (Settings > General > Software Updates > Beta Updates)
  2. Make sure you’re signed into the right Apple Account
  3. Select which beta you’d like to receive (public/developer beta)
  4. Hit "Back" and pull down to refresh
  5. Back up to a computer or to iCloud
  6. Install the beta
If you no longer wish to receive beta updates:
  1. Turn off the Beta Updates (you can also sign out of your Apple Account to reset this setting)
  2. Wait for the next public release or follow the guide below to go back to a release build
Troubleshooting: If the beta doesn’t show up on your phone, try turning on airplane mode, then turning it back off, or restart your device.

How to install using a Mac?
  1. You’ll need the Xcode beta itself or a MobileDevice.pkg somebody extracted from the beta (click with two fingers or control-click), then choose Show Package Contents. Go to Contents/Resources/Packages. - this will work on older Macs that do not support the latest macOS or Xcode betas)
  2. Back up to your Mac or to iCloud in case you need to go back to another version
  3. Hold down Option, then click on ‘Check for Update’/‘Restore iPhone...’ and select the IPSW file you downloaded from the Apple Developer site. Note: You must be connected to the internet to complete the restore.
  4. Enter your iPhone passcode if you’re prompted to do so.
Notes/Tips:
  • Always keep a backup in case you need to restore your phone
  • Restoring wipes your settings and all data on your iPhone
  • You only need to reinstall MobileDevice.pkg if your Mac stops recognizing your iPhone
  • There is no MobileDevice.pkg equivalent to iTunes for PC which would require a new iTunes to support new/beta iOS
  • Upgrading to a newer iPhone? You can update using your Mac before setting up the phone

Stay on 18.5 😁
Nope, I'm still rocking 17.7.2!
I'm happy with bug fixes and performance improvements in lieu of new features until iOS 26.
I start considering iOS 18 for my daily driver, so this is also what i want. You didn't see the "/s"?
Exactly. We will have an entire year of new features, bugs, and battery complaints soon enough. Enjoy some stability for a bit.
^This I want to avoid at all costs, cause the ride on iOS 17 until it was usable wasn't pleasant at all.

Same. iPadOS 17.7 on my iPad Pro. I only got iOS 18.5 on my iPhone 12 since I bought an Apple Watch Series 10

About 24 hours in, 18.6b2 is running very well on my 15PM. Performance is smooth, apps including CarPlay apps working great. Battery life very good: each 10% of battery discharge gets me nearly an hour of active use (except processor-intensive games).

I skipped beta 1. I read that many folks on beta 1 were saying it fixed various issues they had with 18.5. I was having some issues on 18.5 including connectivity, notifications, and touch sensitivity. So far, I haven’t had these issues on 18.6.

YMMY. I’m no power user, most of you are more sophisticated and knowledgeable iOS users than me.

What’s your experience so far? Does 18.6 fix problems you had with 18.5? Does it introduce new problems?

I had a 15PM given to me from my old job. That phone was hot a lot but 18.5 it got so bad that’s the reason I went to 18.6….however, I now have a 16PM that I had to put 18.6 on to transfer everything. So far it’s been almost perfect so I’m afraid to switch. Only some weird phone bar information and 8x8 not letting me log in but I’ll wait a few more days to see how beta 2 works out .

I have this bugs on iOS 18.5:
1.When my screen is locked and iPhone is idle for 5 minutes, I don't receive notifications from WhatsApp, Telegram and etc until I unlock my iPhone.
2. If I listen voice message in WhatsApp or Telegram with my upper speaker (you should listen them with your ear near the speaker) and turn volume to 0, there's a scratch sound.
Have this bugs fixed in iOS 18.6 beta 2?

Low power mode and killed my 15pm and I had to resurrect it
Yes, you read that right. Yesterday, my phone was at 10% while I was on my way home, with no power source available for at least an hour. I put my phone on Low Power Mode; however, as expected, it throttled my phone’s performance to the point that I could no longer use it.

I decided to turn off Low Power Mode, but unexpectedly, it shut down my phone. I tried turning it back on, but it never got past the Apple logo before shutting down again.

I left it alone, and when I got home, I connected it to its charger. It turned on with 10% battery. However, my apps were no longer working — apps that previously worked would no longer get past the splash screen and would eventually force close. I tried everything, such as restarting and reinstalling, before deciding to reset my phone.

I reset my phone and did not restore from backup, and now it’s working fine.

Thought I’d share it here. I’ve been a beta tester since the beginning, and this is the first time this has happened to me. 😉

Hotspot is working as normal on my 15PM; tested with an extended session with different devices connected to mobile hotspot. I'm sorry you've had problems with it. I hope the next beta fixes it for everyone.
