Hey there! So, I have an iPhone XR, and when I connected it to my Mac Finder, it showed an update available and started the update process. But guess what? My main iPhone, the 16 Pro, said it already had the latest update (version 18.7.1). I manually updated my iPhone to version 18.7.2. Now, here’s the strange part: my Mac didn’t even prompt me to install iOS 26.1 on my 16 Pro. I mean, the XR isn’t available on iOS 26, so that makes sense. But then again, version 18.7.2 isn’t available as an IPSW file, only as an OTA update. So, my XR somehow ended up with an IPSW file. It’s like a bizarre twist of fate!
IPSWs are device-specific. The XR and XS will continue to receive IPSWs (e.g. https://ipsw.me/iPhone11,8), the iPhones who can update to iOS 26 don’t.
