Additional Notes

To get the beta over-the-air:
  1. Enable Beta Updates (Settings > General > Software Updates > Beta Updates)
  2. Make sure you’re signed into the right Apple Account
  3. Select which beta you’d like to receive (public/developer beta)
  4. Hit "Back" and pull down to refresh
  5. Back up to a computer or to iCloud
  6. Install the beta
If you no longer wish to receive beta updates:
  1. Turn off the Beta Updates (you can also sign out of your Apple Account to reset this setting)
  2. Wait for the next public release or follow the guide below to go back to a release build
Troubleshooting: If the beta doesn’t show up on your phone, try turning on airplane mode, then turning it back off, or restart your device.

How to install using a Mac?
  1. You’ll need the Xcode beta itself or a MobileDevice.pkg somebody extracted from the beta (click with two fingers or control-click), then choose Show Package Contents. Go to Contents/Resources/Packages. - this will work on older Macs that do not support the latest macOS or Xcode betas)
  2. Back up to your Mac or to iCloud in case you need to go back to another version
  3. Hold down Option, then click on ‘Check for Update’/‘Restore iPhone...’ and select the IPSW file you downloaded from the Apple Developer site. Note: You must be connected to the internet to complete the restore.
  4. Enter your iPhone passcode if you’re prompted to do so.
Notes/Tips:
  • Always keep a backup in case you need to restore your phone
  • Restoring wipes your settings and all data on your iPhone
  • You only need to reinstall MobileDevice.pkg if your Mac stops recognizing your iPhone
  • There is no MobileDevice.pkg equivalent to iTunes for PC which would require a new iTunes to support new/beta iOS
  • Upgrading to a newer iPhone? You can update using your Mac before setting up the phone

Historical beta release chart

iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max will still get iOS 18.x updates while iPhone 11 series and newer will only get iOS 26.x updates after this.

For those who are still on iOS 18.x or older, you have 7 days from today to update/upgrade to iOS 18.7.2

I would say from experience? 🤔 Apple will probably only offer iOS 26 after a week.
Still don't make any sense. Last year there was three weeks from 18.1 till 18.1.1 and at the same time 17.7.2 was released that supported all devices. After that there was almost a month before 17.7.3 was released. That release was only for devices that couldn't be updated.

You are wrong.
Apple is usually taking away the ability to update the latest "year-before" iOS in December (iOS 16) or January (iOS 15)

They have NEVER only allowed 7 days to download and install an update. Where are you getting this from?

I have a 15+ and would love to have 18.7.2, but the overall battery life seemed to drop with 18.7. I think I will wait until iBytes runs another test and then decide whether to go to 18.7.2. If Apple unsigns 18.7.2 before then, I will suck it up and stay on 17.6.1.

Updated my 16 Pro, no noticeable difference or heating issues (still on the charger). Most of the updates is security related, at least the official notes. I don't expect things to be better or worse with this update.

I am curious: You are on 17.6.1 right now, but Apple is showing you the update to 18.7.2?
(I was under the impression that iOS 17 users with an eligible phone would be presented with iOS 26 only.)

That should be the case, but with MDM Delayed OTA it should still be possible to install the 18.6.2 IPSW for a few days (90 days after release, so mid-November?) and then update to 18.7.x OTA.

I got it mixed up with only 7 days to downgrade. I realized it later that it was the ability to downgrade to iOS 18.7.1 that I was thinking of and downgrading to iOS 18.7.1 is no longer possible since the last iPSW was iOS 18.6.2

So, Apple may still allow update/upgrade to iOS 18.7.2 until 7 days after iOS 26.1.1 or iOS 26.2 is released. For iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, they will still get iOS 18.x updates until Apple stops releasing them.

Just updated my iPhone 14 and iPad Mini. Same as before. The iPhone is a slightly smoother, but probably due to restart during update.

connected to my mac and cant see the update to 18.7.2. maybe its just OTA update?
Hey there! So, I have an iPhone XR, and when I connected it to my Mac Finder, it showed an update available and started the update process. But guess what? My main iPhone, the 16 Pro, said it already had the latest update (version 18.7.1). I manually updated my iPhone to version 18.7.2. Now, here’s the strange part: my Mac didn’t even prompt me to install iOS 26.1 on my 16 Pro. I mean, the XR isn’t available on iOS 26, so that makes sense. But then again, version 18.7.2 isn’t available as an IPSW file, only as an OTA update. So, my XR somehow ended up with an IPSW file. It’s like a bizarre twist of fate!

I just checked the 15+, and I see two updates available. When first checking, I see the screen for 18, then a second screen slides in quickly, showing 26. I can close that screen, and the screen to update to 18 is there. I do have auto updates disabled.
