Additional Notes

To get the beta over-the-air:
  1. Enable Beta Updates (Settings > General > Software Updates > Beta Updates)
  2. Make sure you’re signed into the right Apple Account
  3. Select which beta you’d like to receive (public/developer beta)
  4. Hit "Back" and pull down to refresh
  5. Back up to a computer or to iCloud
  6. Install the beta
If you no longer wish to receive beta updates:
  1. Turn off the Beta Updates (you can also sign out of your Apple Account to reset this setting)
  2. Wait for the next public release or follow the guide below to go back to a release build
Troubleshooting: If the beta doesn’t show up on your phone, try turning on airplane mode, then turning it back off, or restart your device.

How to install using a Mac?
  1. You’ll need the Xcode beta itself or a MobileDevice.pkg somebody extracted from the beta (click with two fingers or control-click), then choose Show Package Contents. Go to Contents/Resources/Packages. - this will work on older Macs that do not support the latest macOS or Xcode betas)
  2. Back up to your Mac or to iCloud in case you need to go back to another version
  3. Hold down Option, then click on ‘Check for Update’/‘Restore iPhone...’ and select the IPSW file you downloaded from the Apple Developer site. Note: You must be connected to the internet to complete the restore.
  4. Enter your iPhone passcode if you’re prompted to do so.
Notes/Tips:
  • Always keep a backup in case you need to restore your phone
  • Restoring wipes your settings and all data on your iPhone
  • You only need to reinstall MobileDevice.pkg if your Mac stops recognizing your iPhone
  • There is no MobileDevice.pkg equivalent to iTunes for PC which would require a new iTunes to support new/beta iOS
  • Upgrading to a newer iPhone? You can update using your Mac before setting up the phone

Strange, I only see 26.4.2 offered as update with beta channel off.
With 18 beta channel on, I see nothing, only "Your iOS 18.7.8 is up to date".

So I think, Apple is back to nag/push people from 18 to 26 - sorry, also not this time!

I guess this means there’s a significant number of people still refusing to upgrade to iOS 26? GOOD.
I’m prepared to literally never upgrade my M4 13” iPad Pro again…. For as long as I have it.

iOS 26 was the absolute worst, most botched, bug-ridden steaming pile of garbage Apple has released in a VERY long time.

I’m not a blind hater; I’ve had an iPhone since the 3G and iPad since the original one in 2010. (Just found my original, actually!)

I regret daily updating my M1 11” to iOS 26…. 👎🏻🤬

iOS 26 is not optimized for the SE and smaller phones. Just look at Control Center, it’s a mess!

iOS 26 doesn’t have any features that I need that I can’t get on iOS 18.
iOS 26 is an absolute mess that never should have shipped in its current state. It completely ruined my 11 inch M1 iPad and I regret upgrading every day. 🤬 Finally now with 26.4 my iPad has become usable again, after months of insane battery drain and utter crap performance. 26.0 was barely Alpha software. 🤬

iOS 26 on my 13 Mini is the worst iOS experience I've ever had, and I lived with iOS 7 on an iPhone 4 and was using an iPhone SE as my main phone with iOS 13, 14 and 15.
Haven't tried it on the 12 or 13 mini so can't comment on that. But as far as I know its the same HW but a smaller battery and different resolution screen. Could that be whats causing the bad experience? The regular SE2, SE3 and 13 I've tried it on runs fine.

I think most agree that releasing iOS7 on the iPhone 4 was a bad decision in terms of performance.
I'm not a massive fan of the new design, but its not that bad and you get used to it. At least you can tone down the liquid glass effects on later releases.

I've seen the same issues on an iPhone 15 Pro Max. iOS 7 on the iPhone 4 was slow, but it wasn't nearly as buggy as I've experienced with 26.

I agree that iOS 7 on iPhone 4, iOS 9 on iPhone 4s, iOS 26 on 3GB, 4GB RAM devices caused performance issues.

As a side note, it's been 7 days now and I am still seeing iOS 18.7.8 being offered on my iPhone 11 Pro Max, which is good, but it would be better if Apple allows all iOS 18.x updates to every iOS 18.x compatible device, and release a full iPSW not just for iPhone XR, XS, XS Max.

Was this with the release version and you went back to iOS18, or with a recent version? Seeking data, not trying to pick your thoughts apart.

I never downgraded - I did do a clean install around 26.2, and yeah 26.5 is better than the original 26.0, it's still full of issues for me.
