Bring back the iOS 6 look... And optimize the code so older models would still be usable after the iOS upgrade...

A5 devices [iPhone 4s, iPod touch 5, iPad 2, iPad 3] got destroyed by iOS 9 and never recovered...
You realise this goes against Apple's desire to have you unnecessarily upgrade your phone every 1-2 years, right? This is their business model you're asking them to change. Don't get me wrong, I 100% agree with you but there's no way it's going to happen.

lol a smarter Siri? really? Its been terrible since its inception and I Can't see it changing any time soon.

It's not air.
It's not water.
It's not food.
It doesn't love you.

I'm sure I'm in the minority with this thought, and maybe it's just where I'm at in life, or in mood... but I've been cutting subscription services, canceling social accounts left and right, and not looking back. First world problems... but dang, it sure feels good to be free of some creepers. Creeping up on your wallet, on your time, on your life.
I’ve been doing the same - cancelling social media accounts and not buying subscription based apps or services for years now. The outcome: never been happier and my wallet is fatter.
My feedback to any company asking why I cancel has been I don’t support your subscription based model.

Note: this is my personal experience and I’m not telling anyone else here what do to and who to support. Companies and developers can do what they please with their IP and/or products, and consumers can support them also. No hate. You do you.

As for AI, while the potential it has is nothing to scoff at, I surely do hope that it's more than what we're seeing as pretty gimmicky things in being able to manipulate photos more and all. Siri is and has been in dire need of an overhaul for a LOOOOOONG time. The fact that not much about it has changed in recent years while the other assistants are leaps and bounds ahead of it just baffles me.
My understanding of this based on past rumors/leaks is that the framework of the original application was not very modular, yet Siri is still based on it to this day.

My hopes are that John Giannandrea has been working on its replacement to hot swappable replacement (via a major OS update) since 2018.

Wishful thinking? Maybe. 🙏🤞

I want Apple to convince me to stay with Apple this year. I just got the 15 Pro Max when it came out so my chances of leaving are pretty low, but I'm seeing what Samsung is doing and quite frankly I'm bored with Apple. I'm bored with the same kind of IOS every year for the last 10+ years. I'm bored of Apple selling me on a camera where the biggest feature of a Camera is that it takes pictures. Woopie. I barely take pictures so that's pretty much out. I think for me, Apple needs to convince me that Siri is worth using, that IOS can be customizable to my needs and wants, and fun can be had with it. I barely remember what the new features of IOS 17 were because nothing is memorable. I see what Samsung can do with their AI stuff and just how powerful it is and I get jealous. Apple is one of the biggest companies in the world. Act like it and be the leader you were 10 years ago. Give me something I can get excited about because right now I'm bored.

I’m bored with windows. I’ve been with it since the dos days, much more a length of time than I’ve been with apple. Windows, like iOS can be changed up with hardware, but under the covers it’s still the same.

Both do a job and I like the job they do. But yeah the same old same old year after year.

What you do on the computer and what you do on the phone are completely different. I'm not bored of Windows because I know what I'm getting. I expect better when it comes to phone innovation and technology because the landscape is getting better while Apple is lagging behind.

What I do on windows and the iPhone are a large overlapping list of functional items. The mechanics are different and the physical hardware is different but I know what I’m getting with an iPhone and I know what I’m getting with a windows based computer (intel not arm) since my windows hardware changes less frequently than my phone I think it’s harder to innovate new concepts in windows. But I don’t believe apple is lagging behind. When they implement something new, it’s a game changer; ie Apple Pay.

I would really like to like Siri. But it simply doesn’t work for me. I cannot dictate even a simple email or a message, tons of mistakes, stops all the time and wants to do things on its own. Now they want to add artificial intelligence, but I fear it’s going to be even more artificial with no intelligence at all. Obviously I hope I’m wrong.

I have never understood the attraction of Siri outside very specialized circumstances. Is it that a generation or two of Americans have grown up with Star Trek, making them believe that voice interfaces are The Future?
The country I live in have a roughly 50/50 split between iOS and Android phones, and everyone from 9-10 years of age and up has a smartphone. Yet I have NEVER heard ANYONE talk to Siri on the street, on public transportation, or in the workplace.
I view Siri not as a tool or an assistant, but as a weird expression of American culture.

Wow I am kinda surprised people on this forum speak truth and not all of this “balanced opinions” (i.e. censorship) like on YouTube and Reddit. For many years I have been looking at Apple’s software downfall. They are adding miniscule new features with zero new stuff that people will actually use.

Chat GPT like stuff? Yeah it was fun to use for a month or two, but then it was boring. After I realized that this “AI” is so dumb that it is just a collection of different human experiences (not all of which are true) I just decided to never open it again. Because I am better myself at trying better food recipes than the goofy AI friend that is basically a big library with stuff that is not always correct.

Maybe it will change in future but I am better myself at making decisions.

For example photos on iPhones and Samsungs today look really… overprocessed. The AI has been editing the photos for many years. And why there is still no feature to make fully unprocessed JPEGs on iPhone without additional apps? Sometimes I just need full manual control over my pictures, including the noise profile.

Or maybe a design. Isn’t it time for change? I was sick with this so-called minimalism since iOS 7. In recent iOS iterations people have even been reporting a lot of eye strain on iPhones. Maybe it is just the poor design that does not help our eyes and mind focus on something? Maybe skeuomorphism was actually better and more complete visual design approach?

There are numerous forums flooded with eye strain from OLED displays and the use of temporal dithering in new iPhones and iPads. Maybe Apple would rather finally address this? I have already f-ed up my vision with the iPhone 11 Pro that I used to have, and I have eye tests to even prove this. I really don’t wanna go completely blind because of Apples fancy fake “P3” and “deep black OLED” kind of b$.

And maybe… it is high time to hide the notch? I mean to be able to remove it completely and not “play on it” like with new iPhone 15 Pro and PM. At least software removal would suffice. I am really not a fan of these rounded corners, it looks silly

This is all fine and good but it's faaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrr past time for a complete redesign of the UI. Been this way for 10 years now and it's growing stale.
I hate it when my wife moves the furniture or when the grocery store does a remodel.

I'm glad that my 2021 car is pretty much like my 2010 car (but with CarPlay!).

Is *change* an American obsession?

So at 50,000 feet are the features that apple added to the iPhone 4s from the iPhone 4 greater than those added from the iPhone 14 to the iPhone 15?

I think the last few iterations of iPhones provide some type of “raw”. No?

I like the minimalism. There will always be a group of people who will always have sensitive eyes when it comes to screens. What you call poor design, I happen to enjoy using. YMMV.

From some MR posts, it’s better on the iPhone 15. Minimalism has nothing to do with eye strain and more to do with display tech.

If apple devices are messing with your eyes, is there some other manufacturer that is more friendly to your eyes?
And maybe… it is high time to hide the notch?
I think until the tech is fool-proof the notch is a temporary construct.
I mean to be able to remove it completely and not “play on it” like with new iPhone 15 Pro and PM.
They did a great job on the 15PM with Dynamic Island. Again, YMMV.

What is software removal?

Which parts?
Many websites don't load. Can't even properly use Popcorn time on Safari. Websites often crash etc. Translation is very behind from other browsers etc.

Edit: Just had to click "View Original" because Safari messed up the translation of the website and had to start all over again. Safari is literally the worst browser ever in so many ways. There's no point to even argue that "Safari is good"".

I think i will stay on iOS 15, which gives me all that I want and its really fast on my 12 mini. Not using Siri, nor messages, pages, shortcuts, so nothing really exciting in the horizon.

Also worried about design changes as is a nice excuse to drop support of good amount devices. And, 5.4 display is now something from the past, new design changes may not be fully adapted to those screens.

Well for me personally I’d like to see some design change! Personally I don’t need AI so that’s of no real importance! However, what I’d like to see on a security mindset
. Disable 2G / 3G in their entirety and if 5G runs on some backbone of 3G then enable the right bands without being in lockdown mode
. In Settings in IOS there should be a list of devices (including browsers that have logged into a AppleID) along with time, date, IP address like well every other major tech platform
- Create an engine of some kind that can scan an iPhone for possible compromises / infections since nothing exists even an apple service (instead of iPhones can’t be compromised)
. RCS is a pleasant addition
. UI changes
- toggles to completely turn on / off microphone / camera completely.
- How about making a square model like the S24 Ultra as not everyone likes a curved edged device!
- secure the baseband from possible cellular RF attacks.
