I'm praying there's a way to disable or at least hide the stupid App Library page at the end. I hated it from day one and it's an absolute eye sore. Also it just seems completely unnecessary.
Really? I love the App Library. I've deleted all of my pages of apps except the home page, and put my most used apps there. Everything else is in the App Library on the 2nd page. The apps are organized by type, with my most used ones front and center of each grouping. If there's an app I don't see, simply start typing in the search bar. I think it's one of the better features they've rolled out.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I genuinely wonder how many people take the time to organize their home screens to this level. I have accumulated so many apps on my phone that, with the exception of maybe less than 10, I just swipe down and search. Those 10 are so apps have been in the same place for so long that I have muscle memory of where they are. Moving them to try and organize the view would cause more problems than it would fix.

If I try to move an app which is surrounded by others I would have expected it to leave a hole/space where it was. But it still auto arranges and fills the space with apps by shifting them all like before. I expected different behavior.
It's super annoying, I hate this behavior. Oh you wanted to create a gap? Well have fun moving six apps instead of one!

This is one of those very late added features that are honestly a joke within the Apple world… have no more words.

People were screaming in the streets for this. “Boring”, “old fashioned”, “innovation where art thou?”

Watch them realise why the traditional layout was so handy, as they miss having their favourite Apps on the Home Screen 😏

I‘ll keep mine the way it is thanks…

I wonder if the people I saw saying to others “If you want to have your icons anywhere, buy an android” will make use of this feature 🤔

Nope, I don't want all these customisation features at all.

The only thing I would want is to get more apps on one page by reducing or eliminating the icons.

We've been able to arrange apps into folders for some time now. Soon we'll be able to place apps and folders wherever we want on the home screen. If they still force the App Library page at the end of all that, it would actually be hilarious. Basically, "Arrange things however you want, but we're still gonna do it our way and force you to see it".
I think you've stated Apple's position accurately.

In my experience on the PB they can be placed anywhere, unless I’m misunderstanding what you are saying.

They have to sit in certain areas of the screen. Say I want a small widget to sit in the centre of the screen I can’t, it has to sit either on the left or the right. Why?

Fair enough. I guess its usefulness depends on how many apps we have and how we like to arrange them. I only use a handful of apps and have them organised in a specific way. So in my case, the App Library just seems like unnecessary duplication and clutter. My main issue is not being able to disable it.

Nope. Still buy an android and stop trying to turn iOS into android.

I tried it briefly and the new home screen options and my iPhone looked like any other crappy android Home Screen so I changed it.

Now it’s nothing except the dock and I use spotlight.

It takes courage……. to copy a 15-year old Android feature.
You mean Symbian which existed before android.

And let’s not act like android isn’t known for copying apple looks and features.

Samsung entire galaxy s-s4 line is an iPhone copycat lmao. And now the new Samsung gear.

I still don’t like it — I think it’s pure visual customization that results in worse UX. The forced grid system was great because i.e. there was no need to manually rearrange icons after moving one of them, everything always follows a logical order.
I despised the musical chairs method and the icon grid in general. And in typical “modern Apple” style they went with the lead viable product. I’d love to hide icon labels and not have big icons but that’s apparently too much to ask for a year where so little, meaningful features were added (Jurry is out on the AI stuff since we won’t see it until next year)

I delete apps I don’t use. It’s clutter

Do you meticulously research which iOS features Android had first and refuse to use them all?

So...a feature that is completely avoidable but vital to most users should be able to be turned off because some users don't like that it exists?

If it didn't exist, it would mean any app a user has chosen not to put on a home screen would only be accessible via search, which would be a poor user experience. Many users don't need (or want) to have all their apps on constant display where they have to spend time organising them, hence why the library exists.

I have my 8 or so most used apps on the home screen, the only reason I wanted to be able to move icons anywhere was because back when I was on Android I had those apps on my Home Screen on the bottom of the screen, given how phones rapidly got larger and larger even on the non Plus/Max models I found it difficult to reach things at the top of the screen one handed and I have large hands. The gesture to activate one handed mode felt like a bandaid for a bullet wound to me 🤷‍♂️

Good to see that this is now possible on the latest version of iOS

“Vital to most users”…debatable.

Also, is it really that difficult to have a toggle that hides the App Library? I’m not saying delete it entirely.

It’s now an integral part of the OS, and there’s very little use case in having such a function. A user can simply just not navigate to it, like not navigating to settings they never intend to use.

Also in iOS 18, the only way to navigate to hidden apps will be via the App Library.
